Ms. Jones-Thomas said that the initial report is due back from the <br /> architect in 4-6 weeks and a group has been invited to review his report. <br /> She noted that it was also recommended that the Housing and Redevelopment <br /> and Personnel Departments move to accessible sites. Other levels of review <br /> besides facilities will be programs and activities and the locations of <br /> these as there appears to be a need for modification. A discussion was <br /> held regarding the matter of segregation of programs vs. integration. <br /> Ms. Jones-Thomas said that a glossary of unacceptable terms pertaining to <br /> disabled persons is being developed because the goal is to change <br /> people's attitudes. She mentioned that the 504 Committee is looking at a <br /> joint venture with the Chamber of Commerce to identify all facilities in <br /> the City that are accessible. <br /> Ms. Jones-Thomas said that there will be specific types of training for <br /> safety personnel such as fire and police. The Police Department is <br /> currently working on a survey of the community to identify people who have <br /> certain disabilities. There will also be general training for all city <br /> employees, commissions and boards and some of the training may be <br /> contracted out. She noted that the City needs to work with existing <br /> resources and begin thinking of new ways to reach people and make <br /> accommodations. Ms. Jones-Thomas wants to have the 504 Committee stay in <br /> place beyond its 3 year life because she sees a need for continuity. <br /> It was announced that the Community Development Block Grant process is <br /> coming up. On Tuesday, February 25 and Thursday, February 27, technical <br /> assistance workshops will be held to help applicants fill out the <br /> application for funds and proposals which will be due by March 10. These <br /> funds are available for programs and service providers that work with low <br /> to moderate income people. <br /> Steve Penna Presentation <br /> A presentation was made by Steve Penna of the Redwood City Theatrical and <br /> Entertainment Troupe. Mr. Penna explained that his group wants to provide <br /> theatrical programs, speaker series' and entertainment, and is looking for <br /> the endorsement of the concept of this program by civic groups. The group <br /> is looking at locating in the downtown area and the Fox Theater is a very <br /> fitting location. He wants to get the community back together and feels <br /> this program would give people a better sense of community. He mentioned <br /> that the Sequoia High School auditorium and Canada College are also <br /> alternate sites. There will be a Study Session on March 2 in the Library <br /> Superintendent Hartman announced there will be a Study Session on March 2 <br /> in the Library Community Room between the City Council and the Civic <br /> Cultural Commission to consider use of the Fox Theater and the possible <br /> contribution of funds to them. Commissioners are invited to attend. <br /> Steve Penna's request to vote on the approval of the concept of having a <br /> community-based theater program will be placed on the March agenda. <br /> ITEM 2 - Transportation <br /> Timetables for ADA Paratransit Plan By SamTrans were sent to the <br /> Commissioners for their review. Chairperson Anthony reported that the <br /> taxicab system will begin next month in South San Francisco and Daly City <br /> and SamTrans will use this system as criteria for setting up taxicab <br /> systems in other areas.
