said a fee schedule would be developed for those people using the bus/van
in order to cover the costs. Commissioner Truscelli mentioned he contacted
the Woodside Terrace Retirement Center to obtain information about the
costs of their 21 passenger van but was unable to get any information and
Commissioner Lloyd said he would check into this matter.
Roundtable
Leo Walsh of the Commission on Aging spoke about the health care needs of
seniors and asked if our Commission had any policies regarding President
Clinton's proposed health care reform as it pertains to seniors.
Chairperson Anthony said the Commission has no definite statement or plan
regarding this program because more information is needed about the
program. Commissioner Jordan suggested having various speakers come to the
Commission to speak about this subject during 1994. Suggested speakers
were the City's Director of Human Resources, AARP and various hospitals in
the area. The Commissioners were interested in determining what are the
issues of seniors regarding this health care package and their need for a
clear understanding of the proposed program. Some of their concerns were
long term care, quality of service and cost of the program. TEWCI
Chairperson Dr. Roger Willey said he practiced medicine for 38 years in San
Mateo County and noted the current health care system is not good and there
needs to be a better system. Chairperson Anthony said he would check with
local hospitals regarding this subject.
The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was adjourned to be
reconvened at 9:00am on Wednesday, January 12, 1994 at the Senior Center
Annex, 711 Nevada Street, Redwood City, California.
