Report on Speaker for Water/Sewer Rates
Superintendent Hartman reported that she spoke with General Services
Director Peter Ingram about having someone talk to the Commission about
this subject. Mr. Ingram is involved with the water/sewer rates committee
and said he and William Adams would be delighted to speak at our March
meeting. Supervisor Kucala suggested having them also speak to the AARP
and the Fun After Fifty groups on the same subject.
Report on HiCap's Liability Exemption
Commissioner Lloyd said he spoke with a HiCap representative who
explained that they get their insurance through RSVP. Any volunteer
worker is covered under RSVP but they must have their own insurance in
order to be covered. RSVP will then cover the difference between the
volunteer's coverage and RSVP's. He explained that there is a bill coming
before the legislature shortly regarding liability for volunteers and he will
obtain more information and report back to the Commission. He noted that
this matter is on the "Top 10" issues for the Senior Legislature.
Commissioner Jordan will also work on putting something together on this
subject.
ITEM 2-TRANSPORTATION
Chairperson Anthony said that Supervisor Kucala has created forms to be
used at the senior centers to report any transportation problems. These forms
will be forwarded to him so that he can take them back to the PCC for follow
up. No transportation complaints were received during January.
ITEM 3-TRAINING FOR COMMISSIONERS
Superintendent Hartman reported that she, Supervisor Kucala, Center
Coordinator Magda Gonzalez, Supervisor Harmon and other staff liaisons for
the City's boards and commissions met recently with the Assistant City
Manager to discuss possible training for board and commission members.
She asked the Commissioners what types of information would they like to
see covered during a training workshop. The Commissioners discussed the
proposed workshop and felt it was a good idea. They suggested discussing the
Brown Act, parliamentary procedure (formal vs. informal), how to run an
effective meeting, and the relationships with other commissions/boards.
They all would like to see the training held for two hours in the evening
(with the exception of Tuesdays) but not on a Saturday. Superintendent
Hartman said she would take back their suggestions to the committee.
