ITEM 4-HOUSING UPDATE
Chairperson Anthony said the Locust Street Shelter made a request for
approximately $80,000.00 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
funds at the May 2 City Council meeting and the City Council appropriated
$50,000.00 towards the program. A representative of the Locust Street Shelter
advised the Council that if they did not receive the full amount they
originally requested, they might have to shut down. Vice Mayor Claire
explained the history of funding for the Shelter and suggested that they be
funded the full amount as they had been from the start of the program with
the difference of $30,000.00 coming from the City's general fund.
Chairperson Anthony said the Planning Commission approved a zoning
change recently which would assist in the availability of senior housing.
Property owners can now construct another unit of 1,000 square feet or less on
their property and the requirement of frontage width of their property has
been reduced from 60 to 50 feet. They also must be able to provide another
parking space for this additional unit. There are no provisions proposed at
this time for another senior housing facility in Redwood City.
Superintendent Hartman said she will get an update on the Rolison Road
properties recently acquired by the City and the Whipple Lodge location. This
information will be presented at the June meeting.
ADDITIONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
-Superintendent Hartman announced William Adams of the General
Services Department would be available to provide an update of the water
rates at our June meeting. Mr. Adams will also be making a presentation on
the same subject at the Fun After Fifty meeting on May 17.
-Chairperson Anthony introduced Bernard Scheier who has applied for a
position on the Senior Affairs Commission.
The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was adjourned at
10:30am to be reconvened at 9:00am on Wednesday, June 8, 1994 to be held at
the Fair Oaks Senior Center, 2600 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, California.
