Commissioner Jordan asked about the size of the vehicle and felt that one
could be obtained for a price less than the estimated $36,000. The
Commissioners discussed the type of van needed and felt that one that
accommodated five people plus a driver would be the most suitable. They
also preferred the vans with a fold-down ramp rather than a lift. Therapeutic
Coordinator Tulioc said she has various types of literature on vans and will
provide that information to Commissioner Truscelli.
Note: Staff has been advised that vehicles with fold-down
ramps do not comply with ADA codes.
ITEM 3-DRIVER LIABILITY EXEMPTION FOLLOW UP INFORMATION
Commissioner Lloyd said he met with an individual from the State
Democratic Committee regarding drafting a resolution to get this matter on
the State Democratic platform. Chairperson Anthony said he felt it was necessary to build the
confidence of the riders in the RediWheels program. He said that
RediWheels is considered "on time" if they arrive 20 minutes before or after
the scheduled arrival time. In addition, once the vehicle arrives, the patron
has five (5) minutes to get on board the van.
Commissioner Jordan inquired about any re-negotiation in contract price to
Mayflower due to the lower price they originally bid during this current
contract.
ITEM 5 - BROWN ACT REVIEW-NEW IMPLICATIONS
Superintendent Hartman reviewed the revised Brown Act with the
Commissioners and the fact that there can no longer be an open-ended
"Roundtable/Matters of Commission Interest".
