Supervisor Kucala estimated it would cost $9,000.00 to hire a licensed
therapist for the proposed peer counseling program. There is also a need for a
trained staff person or volunteer to do intake interviews, match up peer
counselors with clients, and oversee the program.
Supervisor Kucala has presented a proposal to the Concerned Seniors to
recommend that they begin a project to raise the funds necessary to hire a
therapist for the program. The Concerned Seniors are discussing the proposal
and will determine if they can take on the project. Commissioner Lloyd said
he would meet with the Concerned Seniors and report back to the
Commission.
Marie Walsh explained that this past year the senior peer counselors met
with high school peer counselors. She said it was an exciting meeting and she
is looking forward to having senior peer counselors act as mentors to the teen
peer counselors in the future.
ITEM 4-DISCUSSION ABOUT COMMISSION
M/S Jordan/Lloyd: To defer this matter to the July meeting when the entire
Commission will be in attendance.
Motion passed.
ITEM 5-TRANSPORTATION
Supervisor Kucala announced Erlinda Tulioc is working on setting up a
vehicle demonstration for Wednesday, August 3 at 9:30am to be held in
conjunction with the Veterans Memorial Senior Advisory Council meeting.
One or two vendors will be there with several vehicles for inspection. Chairperson Anthony said he does not
want this just to be a paratransit bus because people can use SamTrans for this
purpose. He would like the vehicle to be used to transport homebound
seniors to the Center. He felt the van is mainly for the use by the seniors but
if they are not using it, then it could be used by the Special Needs group. An
agreement would need to be drawn up between the two groups to provide for
shared use.
Supervisor Kucala presented the proposed costs for the driver and dispatcher
of the bus and estimated it will cost approximately $9,500.00 per year in salary
costs.
Chairperson Anthony presented the SamTrans budget for paratransit services
and stated that the PCC has recommended the proposed budget to SamTrans
for approval.
