Supervisor Mannia felt that the number of hours needed for the licensed
therapist for our peer counseling program could be reduced from 50 to 40
hours per year and the number of hours required per week could be reduced
from 3 to 2 hours per week. She also felt a therapist could be obtained at a rate
of $40.00 per hour versus the estimated $60.00 per hour. As a result of these
changes, Supervisor Mannia estimated that the total amount of funds needed
to operate the program on an annual basis would be $3,200 and the Concerned
Seniors have approximately $1,600 available for the program. Therapist John
Dabney was recommended for the program but has indicated that he cannot
participate because he is so committed at this time. Mr. Dabney stated he has
names of several therapists that he can recommend. It was noted that the
peer counseling program no longer uses the instructional books provided by
the Concerned Seniors.
Supervisor Mannia stated they are looking for 2 or 3 volunteers to attend the
September 12 training class. Director Bransford will speak with one of her
staff about taking the class again and Supervisor Mannia with speak with
Marie Walsh about finding someone from the Veterans Memorial Senior
Center to attend. The Commissioners discussed applying for grants to help
subsidize the program and noted that the County might agree to have a
person on their staff help with writing a grant proposal. Maria Bransford will
check with the TEWCI Board about possible donations. Supervisor Mannia
will get more clarification on details of the program and will report at the
next meeting.
ITEM 3-FRIENDLY VISITORS
Supervisor Mannia reported she spoke with Tessie Obester about the Friendly
Visitors Program and said she would be willing to come to Redwood City to
discuss this subject on Tuesday, August 16 at 10:30am.
