Director Bransford suggested having the Neighborhood Associations deal with this issue. She said they have been successful in some areas in taking care of specific issues. The Commissioners felt it would be good to share information with all seniors. Commissioner Newell suggested seeing what exists now and what other cities have done and begin to look at what can be done. It was suggested surveying seniors to see what problems they are facing and take this information to the City Council. They also wanted to continue to get an exempt status for seniors driving seniors. It was mentioned the F.I.S.H. program drives seniors to different locations. The Commissioners also were concerned about safety around the senior centers, especially the safety and repair of sidewalks around the Centers. It was suggested having the Seniors Walk Group make note of areas that need work. ITEM 6-TRANSPORTATION Marianne Mannia explained that TRIPS (Transportation Resources and Information for Paratransit Services) is an advocacy group formed to improve paratransit services. She explained TRIPS has achieved many of their objectives and has stopped making regular visits to the SamTrans Board of Directors. TRIPS will be resuming their visits and will be making a presentation to the SamTrans Board in September. A County Paratransit Rider's Guide has been developed. Customer Satisfaction surveys will be conducted to determine the quality of services provided and it was noted that the taxi service also began as a result of TRIPS action. Chairperson Anthony said that transportation is the most pressing problem for older people in the community. -Update on Accessible Vehicle Superintendent Hartman shared the information on the vehicles that were demonstrated to the Advisory Council on August 3 by the Bus Stop, Inc. SamTrans will be contacted for additional information on accessible vehicles. Several people will be going to view another vendor's vehicles at El Dorado Bus Sales on Wednesday, August 17 at 10:00am. A committee will be organized to review all the related issues and work on developing a recommendation. ITEM 7-HOUSING &HUMAN CONCERNS COMMITTEE MEETINGS Commissioner Capone attended the last meeting of the Housing & Human Concerns Committee and reported they are two members short at this time. Additionally there is also a City Council representative who has not regularly attended the meetings. Commissioner Capone said the biggest concern of the committee is the evaluation and follow up of the organizations who receive monies from the City. The committee wants to develop criteria to determine if the funds are being used in the most effective manner. Sometimes additional monies are granted by the City Council with no real follow up to make sure the funds are being used properly.
