purchased. Commissioner Mooney suggested contracting out necessary hours
for bus dispatch services from a local vendor. Superintendent Hartman
explained this was done at one time but the company providing the service
no longer does this. She stressed that we do not want to compete with the
Rediwheels program.
Supervisor Griffith stated she is working with Marie Smith to educate her on
providing all available Information and Referral services to her clients. She
asked Jack Anthony if he would consider writing a column on transportation
issues for the VMSAC Newsletter. Supervisor Griffith also announced she is
trying to contact the president of each senior club to determine the most
effective way to disseminate Rediwheels/transportation information. She
will then work with Commissioner Newell to coordinate the transportation
forum.
ITEM 4-REPORT ON BOARD'S AND COMMISSION'S WORKSHOP
Chairperson Lloyd, Commissioners Capone, Moran and Newell attended the
Board's and Commission's Workshop held on Saturday, May 13, 1995. The
Commissioners reviewed the City Council priorities and how what the
Senior Affairs Commission does relates to those priorities. The
Commissioners discussed developing a workplan focusing on the City
Council FY95-96 objectives. Superintendent Hartman will check with Mayor
Gasparini to find out the timeline for the workplan. Since Superintendent
Hartman will be on vacation for the July meeting, it was suggested that the
Commissioners develop the workplan at their August meeting.
Commissioner Walsh suggested that all commissioners come with ideas for
the proposed workplan and be prepared to discuss them at the August
meeting.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
-Commissioner Walsh stated he has been sending letters to local government
representatives, senators, congress people to raise awareness of reduced
hospital costs but rising health care costs. He said he would share the
responses he receives with the Commission.
-Commissioner Newell announced the traffic light near John Gill School was
approved by the City Council and should be installed this Fall.
The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was adjourned at
11:20am to be reconvened at 9:00am on Wednesday, July 12, 1995 at the Senior
Center Annex, 711 Nevada Street, Redwood City, California.
