Mr. Ruskin said the Housing and Human <br /> Concerns Committee gave Bethsaida House the minimal amount necessary <br /> although they applied for a much larger amount. Ms. Jones-Thomas stated <br /> that the City funds every transitional housing unit in Redwood City. <br /> Commissioner Walsh asked if property owners surrounding the Wyndham <br /> Place housing project would be encouraged to improve their properties. Ms. <br /> Jones-Thomas stated a committee of representatives from Police, Fire, Zoning <br /> and other departments will be meeting to develop a strategy to begin an <br /> aggressive code enforcement in that area. Plans include loans being available <br /> to landlords and homeowners to assist them in improving their properties <br /> and the installation of better lighting to discourage graffiti and other negative <br /> activities. <br /> Commissioner Newell mentioned the City of San Carlos is in the process of <br /> building an assisted living complex for seniors and he felt there is a need for <br /> the same type of facility in Redwood City. Ms. Jones-Thomas stated there are <br /> no plans at this time for a senior assisted living complex in Redwood City and <br /> the Housing Department looks to non-profit organizations to apply for grants <br /> for this type of project. Based on the most recent census information, the <br /> need for low income family housing is greater than senior housing. <br /> Commissioner Mooney asked what type of criteria is used to determine <br /> eligibility for housing and Ms. Jones-Thomas explained that each program is <br /> different and the criteria will change depending on the program. She <br /> announced all Commissioners will be provided with a copy of the approved <br /> consolidated CHAS plan. <br /> ITEM 2-ELECTION OF VICE CHAIRPERSON <br /> Chairperson Lloyd announced a new vice chairperson needed to be elected <br /> due to the resignation of Vice Chairperson Jack Anthony earlier this year. <br /> M/S Penna/Moran: To nominate Leo Walsh to the office of Vice <br /> Chairperson of the Senior Affairs Commission. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> Leo Walsh was unanimously elected vice chairperson of the Senior Affairs <br /> Commission. <br />
