ITEM 3 -TRANSPORTATION <br /> Supervisor Linda Griffith explained that due to her heavy work schedule, she <br /> has been unable to make plans for the educational forum for transportation. <br /> She proposed that the educational forum be planned for the end of September <br /> or beginning of October and suggested that she and Chairperson Lloyd and <br /> Commissioner Newell meet to discuss the matter further. Commissioner <br /> Newell volunteered to take the lead in planning the program. This matter <br /> will be placed on the August agenda. <br /> ITEM 4 - BROWN ACT INFORMATION <br /> Commissioner Newell received a letter of explanation about the Brown Act <br /> from the City Attorney and copies of the letter were given to each of the <br /> Commissioners. <br /> ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> -Commissioner Mooney announced he showed the video tape on elder abuse <br /> to his Kiwanis group and felt it was very worthwhile and that it should be <br /> shown to other groups. <br /> -Chairperson Lloyd spoke about the elder abuse presentation he attended on <br /> June 22 and handed out informational brochures he obtained at the meeting. <br /> -Supervisor Griffith announced the Flea Market held on July 8 was very <br /> successful and the next event will be the Septemberfest which will be held on <br /> September 4. She spoke about the recent layoff at Sequoia Hospital and its <br /> effect upon the staffing available to help plan senior health events at the <br /> Senior Center. Supervisor Griffith mentioned the Veterans Memorial Senior <br /> Center will be used in the event of an emergency. In preparation for getting <br /> the building emergency-prepared, she will be collecting cot-size blankets. Any <br /> extra blankets collected during the blanket drive that are not needed at the <br /> Senior Center will be shared with other groups. Supervisor Griffith <br /> explained about the need to have Alzheimer patients participating in the <br /> Alzheimer Association's "Safe Program" versus the Medic Alert bracelet <br /> program. <br /> Referring back to Item 1- <br /> Commissioner Newell said he was concerned about Debbi Jones-Thomas's <br /> report and the fact that there are no plans to build an assisted living facility in <br /> Redwood City. He said as a professional dealing with homebound seniors, he <br /> feels there is a need in Redwood City for this type of senior housing. He said <br /> many seniors he works with have low income but do not qualify for <br /> programs such as MediCal. Commissioner Newell felt that an assisted living <br />
