ITEM 2-DESIGN OF COMMISSION WORKPLAN FOR 95-96 Jack Anthony reviewed a list of ideas he developed for the Commission workplan. Superintendent Hartman gave each of the Commissioners a list of proposed ideas for the workplan she developed from subjects discussed at previous Commission meetings. She advised the Commissioners that the workplan is due by September and will be presented by Chairperson Lloyd at the October 2 City Council meeting. The Commissioners reviewed the list and made suggestions on the topics they would like to see included in the workplan. Topics included: -Training physicians on elder abuse and making senior medical needs known to our legislators. -Educating pharmacists also on this same subject. -The City should have a plan for housing for seniors as they have it for other groups; there should be a plan for an assisted living facility for seniors and that the Commission could use other resources to investigate the matter further. -Lack of HUD money to get housing. -The criteria for housing should include priority to people who are citizens. -We need to educate ourselves and the community on many senior issues. -Quality of life for seniors; reduced purchasing power, legal issues, health care. After considerable discussion, the Commissioners decided to include the topics of Housing, Consumer Watch, Transportation, Elder Abuse and Health Care in their FY95-96 Workplan. The Commissioners discussed these items and how to address them at future meetings. Superintendent Hartman felt the Commissioners needed to develop a plan on what they were going to do with the information they collected on each subject and ways to get this information out to more people. A calendar was developed for future Commission meetings and the subject to be addressed: September-October Housing, Transportation October Status of Peer Counseling for San Mateo County November Health Care January Consumer Watch February Elder Abuse-Legal Issues There should also be quarterly reports from the Veterans Memorial Senior and Fair Oaks Senior Centers to keep the Commissioners abreast of events and activities at each location.
