ITEM 2-HOUSING
-Assisted Living Units in Redwood City
Commissioner Newell agreed to put together some information about the
current assisted living units in Redwood City and will check with Debbi
Jones-Thomas. Commissioner Newell felt it is necessary to define what
"assisted living" means and Supervisor Griffith felt it would also be necessary
to define "long term care". Commissioner Newell will put together a report
on the current status of assisted living units in Redwood City for the October
meeting. Commissioner Capone suggested making a presentation to the
Housing and Human Concerns Committee based on the information
Commissioner Newell gathers.
-Criteria for Eligibility
Superintendent Hartman said that because Federal funds are used for many
of the City's housing projects, the City cannot make residency an application
requirement. Commissioner Newell questioned the source of funds for the
City's various housing projects and will check with Debbi Jones-Thomas for
additional clarification.
Commissioner Moran announced she recently attended a presentation by
Senior Fellow John Cogan at the Hoover Institute. Mr. Cogan stated that
elderly growth is the slowest it has been in this country's history but in a few
years will change dramatically due to the baby boomers coming of age.
ITEM 3-TRANSPORTATION REPORT
-Educational Forum
Commissioner Newell gave the Commissioners his plan for educational
forums for older adults in Redwood City. He plans to contact senior groups to
obtain their feedback about Rediwheels so he can put together his
presentation. Jack Anthony said he felt we need to determine the seniors
who really need transportation.
Jack Anthony reported on the Paratransit Coordinating Council's
(PCC) retreat. The purpose of the retreat was to determine PCC's role and
future plans. He explained that PCC is an organization for the users, not the
providers. He announced that transportation provider Mayflower will be
taken over by Laidlaw.
Superintendent Hartman will provide the Commissioners with the
background information regarding the van/transportation process at the
November meeting.
