Commissioner Capone asked about using school buses to help with the <br /> transportation of seniors and was advised that the school district would not <br /> allow the use of the buses due to liability issues. <br /> Commissioner Newell mentioned he may ask for help from the other <br /> Commissioners to interview people from the senior groups about <br /> Rediwheels. He also plans to contact various senior housing units in <br /> Redwood City to determine what they know about using the Rediwheels <br /> program. <br /> ITEM 4-REVIEW OF FALL PROGRAMS <br /> -Veterans Memorial Senior Center <br /> Supervisor Linda Griffiths reported on the many programs offered at the <br /> Veterans Memorial Senior Center. She mentioned HMOs have approached <br /> the Center and are now providing information which is available at the <br /> Senior Resource Building. An information person for the HiCap program <br /> comes to the Center each Wednesday from 9:30-11:OOam to help seniors <br /> evaluate needs and opportunities for health care. Supervisor Griffith <br /> distributed senior newsletters and other informational class flyers to the <br /> Commissioners. She showed a new class schedule binder which was <br /> developed by Assistant Recreation Center Supervisor Tova Sweet and noted <br /> that one binder will be available in each building for reference. She <br /> mentioned Tova will be moving from the Resource Building to the Senior <br /> Center Annex very soon. <br /> Supervisor Griffiths spoke about problems concerning people who are <br /> reported missing to the Senior Center and said she would like to speak to the <br /> Commission at a future meeting about how to handle this type of incident. <br /> The Commissioners also spoke about having pharmacists speak to seniors <br /> about medication issues. <br /> Superintendent Hartman mentioned Executive Director Maria Bransford was <br /> unable to attend today's meeting due to some construction problems at the <br /> Fair Oaks Senior Center. <br /> ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> -Commissioner Moran said she was contacted by Bonnie Miller of the Fair <br /> Oaks Advisory Board who stated that their request to have a sprinkler system <br /> installed in the Fair Oaks Community Center was rejected. Commissioner <br /> Mooney volunteered to check into this matter. <br />
