Commissioner Capone asked about using school buses to help with the transportation of seniors and was advised that the school district would not allow the use of the buses due to liability issues. Commissioner Newell mentioned he may ask for help from the other Commissioners to interview people from the senior groups about Rediwheels. He also plans to contact various senior housing units in Redwood City to determine what they know about using the Rediwheels program. ITEM 4-REVIEW OF FALL PROGRAMS -Veterans Memorial Senior Center Supervisor Linda Griffiths reported on the many programs offered at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center. She mentioned HMOs have approached the Center and are now providing information which is available at the Senior Resource Building. An information person for the HiCap program comes to the Center each Wednesday from 9:30-11:OOam to help seniors evaluate needs and opportunities for health care. Supervisor Griffith distributed senior newsletters and other informational class flyers to the Commissioners. She showed a new class schedule binder which was developed by Assistant Recreation Center Supervisor Tova Sweet and noted that one binder will be available in each building for reference. She mentioned Tova will be moving from the Resource Building to the Senior Center Annex very soon. Supervisor Griffiths spoke about problems concerning people who are reported missing to the Senior Center and said she would like to speak to the Commission at a future meeting about how to handle this type of incident. The Commissioners also spoke about having pharmacists speak to seniors about medication issues. Superintendent Hartman mentioned Executive Director Maria Bransford was unable to attend today's meeting due to some construction problems at the Fair Oaks Senior Center. ANNOUNCEMENTS -Commissioner Moran said she was contacted by Bonnie Miller of the Fair Oaks Advisory Board who stated that their request to have a sprinkler system installed in the Fair Oaks Community Center was rejected. Commissioner Mooney volunteered to check into this matter.
