Ray Dawley, Redwood City Resident, said he felt that doctors are losing
control of their patients. He is a Kaiser Hospital customer and is very satisfied
with their service but is concerned that Columbia will pay $100 million for a
hospital that is losing money and wonders what they will be doing to change
things and how it will impact the community.
Mr. Britschgi encouraged the Commissioners and others to attend the
community forum meetings and express their opinions on this important
matter.
ITEM 2-PROGRESS REPORT ON COMMISSION WORKPLAN
ASSIGNMENTS
This item will be discussed at the March meeting.
ITEM 3-UPDATE ON HOUSING REPORT
Commissioner Newell reported on his progress regarding his proposed
program for seniors in HUD facilities who are aging in place and need
additional services but cannot afford them. By providing these necessary
services, these seniors would be able to remain in their housing and not have
to be placed in a board and care or nursing home. Commissioner Newell said
he spoke to Bob Bury of the Casa de Redwood Board of Directors regarding
this program and Mr. Bury indicated he did not see a need but directed him to
speak with the building manager of Casa de Redwood.
Commissioner Newell mentioned he needs to call other housing facilities in
Redwood City to determine the level of need in each facility. He also needs to
identify a non-profit organization who can provide these services and who
would be interested in making an application for CDBG and HSFA funds.
and he welcomed the other Commissioners to assist him in this endeavor.
Councilman Ruskin suggested contacting the U.S. Department of Health and
the California Department of Health and asking for their assistance to find a
provider.
ITEM 4-TRANSPORTATION UPDATE
Commissioner Newell said he had nothing to report at this time.
Superintendent Hartman will try to get a representative from Rediwheels to
speak at the March meeting.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Chairperson Lloyd mentioned he would get a speaker for the April meeting
on the subject of financial scams, a type of elder abuse.
