Commissioners Capone and Walsh reported meeting with Councilman Matt <br /> Leipzig on February 17 to discuss senior issues and helping him to <br /> understand the Senior Affairs Commission's goals. Each of the <br /> Commissioners agreed to talk with a particular City Councilperson during the <br /> coming months to discuss senior issues. They will be sent 2 copies of the <br /> Senior Affairs Commission survey which can be used during their <br /> discussions. <br /> Commissioner Capone reported the Housing and Human Concerns <br /> Committee is following up on the CDBG/HSFA grants they made last year by <br /> making annual on-site visits/evaluations to each of the grantees. She <br /> mentioned she was very interested in the grants given to providers of senior <br /> services. One provider is Rosener House which has 27% Redwood City <br /> residents as clients and has no waiting list. Second Harvest is another <br /> provider which gives food to 17 Redwood City organizations and has a Brown <br /> Bag Program at Casa de Redwood and at Fair Oaks Community Center which <br /> provides 100 families with weekly bags of groceries. Catholic Charities in San <br /> Carlos has 30% of its clients from Redwood City and offers more therapeutic <br /> activities than Rosener House. Chairperson Lloyd suggested visiting Rosener <br /> House and Catholic Charities as a group. <br /> Chairperson Lloyd announced Commissioner Leo Walsh is the new State of <br /> California Senior Legislator from San Mateo County. He also announced <br /> Commissioner Walsh is being honored as "Irishman of the Year" by the <br /> Hibernia Newman Club on March 15 at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco. <br /> Commissioner Moran announced Vice Mayor Diane Howard has put out a <br /> community bulletin and would like the Commission to read and critique it. <br /> Commissioner Walsh reviewed an article from the New York Times about a <br /> bill going to the Senate regarding health insurance coverage for people who <br /> are laid off or who have a serious illness. A copy of the article will be sent to <br /> each Commissioner. <br /> Chairperson Lloyd announced that Superintendent Sally Hartman will be <br /> retiring from the City of Redwood City after 36 years of service. Her last day of <br /> work will be April 30, 1996. <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was adjourned at <br /> 5:05pm to be reconvened at 3:00pm on Thursday, March 14, 1996 at the <br /> Senior Center Annex, 711 Nevada Street, Redwood City, California. <br />
