Senior Affairs Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of Thursday,July 11, 1996 <br /> Commissioner Capone reported on several articles which have appeared in <br /> the San Francisco Chronicle/Examiner. One article dealt with the City of San <br /> Bruno which has decided not to participate in the mail carrier alert program <br /> but instead have instituted a new program which better protects their senior <br /> population. The other article was concerning people who pose as utility <br /> workers and gain access to seniors' housing to rob them. <br /> Commissioner Moran reported that she and Commissioner Capone attended <br /> the recent Scam Workshop which was very informative and well attended. <br /> ITEM 5-DISCUSSION ON LOCATION,MEETING TIME AND DATE OF <br /> COMMISSION MEETINGS <br /> The Commissioners decided to continue having their meetings on the second <br /> Thursday of each month at 3:00pm. Since construction is complete at Fair <br /> Oaks, they will begin alternating the meeting place once again. During the <br /> odd months, the meetings will be held at the Veterans Memorial Senior <br /> Center and the even months at the Fair Oaks Senior Center. <br /> ITEM 6-PRESENTATION ON ALZHEIMER'S AND DEMENTIA <br /> Manager Linda Griffiths showed an excellent video to the Commissioners <br /> about a facility which provides day care to Alzheimer's and dementia patients <br /> and explained this film is used to help educate families. She explained the <br /> needs of these patients and what kinds of care are available. She feels it is <br /> very important to educate people on health care issues and the resources that <br /> is available. She mentioned that November is Alzheimer's month and she <br /> will be doing a one day presentation on this topic at the Senior Center. She <br /> will also be make a presentation on this subject at the California Park and <br /> Recreation Society conference which will be held in Redwood City in the Fall. <br /> ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> -Vice Chairperson Walsh reported on a meeting he had attended with a <br /> representative of Catholic Healthcare West regarding the future of the <br /> hospital. <br /> -Manager Griffith reported on the "Senior Games" currently taking place in <br /> San Jose and Assistant Center Supervisor Tova Sweet's participation. <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was adjourned at <br /> 5:10pm to be reconvened at 3:00pm on Thursday, August 8, 1996 at the Fair <br /> Oaks Senior Center, 2600 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, California. <br />
