Vice Chairperson Walsh,
Commissioner Anthony and Manager Linda Griffith will work on the sub-
committee. Manager Griffith suggested making the proposal "site specific".
ITEM 3-TRANSPORTATION UPDATE
Manager Griffith passed out a flyer from J&J WMS Need-a-Ride which was
posted at the Senior Center. She called and requested information about this
service and will follow-up for the Commission.
ITEM 4-TEWCI UPDATE
Superintendent Centeno report the RFP (Request for Proposals) has not been
completed by TEWCI. Commissioner Newell suggested inviting someone
from TEWCI to the October meeting to discuss questions that he had.
Superintendent Centeno will follow up on this request.
ITEM 5-COMMISSION REVIEW OF VETERANS MEMORIAL SENIOR
CENTER
Commissioner Anthony stated that according to City Ordinance Section 2.1.33
under Senior Affairs Commission "Powers and Duties", the Commission has
the authority to review and make recommendations to the City Council and
City Manager for the establishment of programs by the City for senior citizens
in the City; and to review and make recommendations to same regarding the
funding of senior programs and services that operate within the City for the
benefit of seniors. He stated the Commission has never reviewed the
Veterans Memorial Senior Center operation in depth and wants to form a
sub-committee to perform this review. He spoke about auditing the books to
see how monies are being spent by the City and the Senior Advisory Council.
Superintendent Centeno suggested having Manager Linda Griffith put
together a presentation of the budget and how it works so the
Commissioners' have a better understanding of how the Center operates and
how the Senior Advisory Council contributes to the Center operation.
Manager Griffith must obtain permission of the Senior Advisory Council
before presenting their budget to the Commission since they are a non-profit
entity and separate from the City.
M/S Newell/Harrison: To request that a budget presentation be made at the
October Commission meeting.
Motion passed. (Yes-5, No-1)
M/S Anthony/Moran: To form a sub-committee to review the operation of
the Veterans Memorial Senior Center.
