Senior Affairs Commission Page 4 <br /> Minutes of Thursday, November 14, 1996 <br /> ITEM 5-ELECTION OF 1997 OFFICERS <br /> M/S Newell/Harrison: To nominate Leo Walsh as chairperson for the <br /> Senior Affairs Commission for 1997. <br /> There were no more nominations. <br /> Unanimously passed to elect Leo Walsh as chairperson for 1997. <br /> M/S Harrison/Newell: To nominate Betty Moran as vice chairperson for <br /> the Senior Affairs Commission for 1997. <br /> There were no more nominations. <br /> Unanimously passed to elect Betty Moran as vice chairperson for 1997. <br /> ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> -The Boards and Commissions Dinner will be held Tuesday, December 10 at <br /> the Redwood City Elks; invitation to follow. <br /> -Two candidates have applied for the vacant position on the Senior Affairs <br /> Commission and the City Council make the appointment at their November <br /> 18 meeting. <br /> -Commissioner Moran reviewed the "'Tis the Season" events sponsored by <br /> the Civic Cultural Commission. The week long program of events will begin <br /> on December 6 and conclude on December 14. Flyers will be sent to all the <br /> Commissioners. <br /> -Commissioner Newell reported he and Commissioner Moran attended the <br /> Redwood City 2000 Town Hall meeting on October 19. He reported on a <br /> workshop featuring a discussion of high school students who stated they felt <br /> there is too much separation between themselves and the senior population. <br /> Commissioner Newell felt that an integenerational program between <br /> homebound seniors and high schools students would be a wonderful <br /> program which would benefit all participants. This item will be placed on the <br /> January agenda. <br /> -Commissioner Newell stated John Gill's Intergenerational Program is in <br /> need of senior participants and noted he would be willing to speak to any <br /> prospective senior groups to encourage participation. <br /> -The Commissioners thanked Chairperson Lloyd for his work as chairperson. <br /> Commissioner Walsh thanked the Commission for electing him as <br /> chairperson for 1997. <br />
