Senior Affairs Commission Page 3
Minutes of Thursday, November 14, 1996
to make the changes recommended in the report without Council approval.
Commissioner Walsh asked if staff will see the report before it is presented to
the Senior Affairs Commission and Commissioner Anthony agreed that it
would and that staff could also make recommendations. Commissioner
Anthony and Chairperson Lloyd spoke about changes they felt are needed in
the operation of the Veterans Memorial Senior Advisory Council (VMSAC)
to insure its future. Commissioner Anthony felt the information gathered by
the committee will be helpful and clarify things for everyone.
Commissioner Newell asked that if the VMSAC is a separate non-profit
group and the Commission has no control over that group, would any
recommendations we make be accepted by the VMSAC. Commissioners
Anthony and Moran, Superintendent Centeno and Manager Linda Griffith
will meet to discuss the matter further. Superintendent Centeno said the
timeframe of the committee may have to be adjusted due to losing two of its
members. She stressed that the VMSAC is a non-profit separate entity and
that any recommendations made may not satisfy concerns the
Commissioners may have about its operation.
ITEM 3-TEWCI UPDATE
Superintendent Centeno reported that the landscape renovation at Fair Oaks
Senior Center will begin in March 1997 by our landscape crew. Commissioner
Newell asked about the tables stacked on the patio area that need to be
removed. Superintendent Centeno said she was unaware of this situation
and Commissioner Newell said he would contact Maria Bransford for further
clarification.
Superintendent Centeno mentioned the Request for Proposal (RFP) was
completed and Maria Bransford is developing a list of groups who would be
sent the RFP. It was noted that the staff at Fair Oaks Community Center will
be scheduling the classrooms for the Fair Oaks Senior Center.
ITEM 4-TRANSPORTATION UPDATE
Commissioner Walsh reported the San Mateo County Commission on
Disabilities received a copy of the "Give a Ride Show You Care" proposal and
its members were hopeful that this program could be used in other parts of
the County. Commissioner Walsh will contact Finance Director Brian Ponty
to follow up on this proposal.
It was announced that SamTrans will be having a public meeting on
December 11 at 2:00pm at their Board of Directors Hearing Room to discuss
the results of their transportation study.
