Senior Affairs Commission Page 2 <br /> Minutes of Thursday, January 9, 1997 <br /> -Chairperson Walsh mentioned he and Marie Pappas met with the <br /> Congresswoman Anna Eshoo recently to discuss issues facing seniors such as <br /> Medicare, Social Security and in-home services. They are also trying to <br /> arrange a meeting with Representative Tom Lantos. <br /> -Chairperson Walsh mentioned the mayors of San Mateo County cities have <br /> been invited to a meeting with the Legislative/Advocacy Committee of the <br /> San Mateo County Commission on Aging. <br /> ITEM 3 - FY96-97 WORKPLAN REVIEW <br /> The Commissioners discussed their FY96-97 Workplan and made the <br /> following recommendations and assignments: <br /> YOUTH,CHILDREN,SCHOOLS (*Bill,Betty, Geary,Jack (chair) <br /> 1. SAC is represented on the Redwood City Elementary School District <br /> Citizens Advisory Committee to deal with the issue of quality facilities <br /> and impacts on Senior Property tax rates. <br /> June 1997 is scheduled election date. Commissioners Lloyd and Anthony <br /> represent SAC. <br /> 2. SAC will encourage the establishment of intergenerational programs that <br /> bring senior volunteers into the schools. <br /> -Talk with Youth Advisory Council and schools to develop program to <br /> have youth work in homes of homebound seniors. <br /> -An exchange of intergenerationalism at John Gill; e.g. play. <br /> -Oral history storytelling program. <br /> -Recruitment of new volunteers. <br /> 3. SAC is represented on Countywide Youth Commission. <br /> Commissioner Lloyd represents SAC. <br /> 4. SAC is represented on Redwood City 2000 Community Action Team. <br /> Commissioners Moran and Anthony represent SAC. <br /> PUBLIC SAFETY (*Geary,Marie-co-chairs) <br /> 1. SAC will work with City Code Enforcement to encourage increased <br /> reporting of neighborhood problems. <br /> Work with Code Enforcement to encourage neighborhood walk reports <br /> (sidewalks, dangers; health cards, use of volunteers, drop off point; review <br /> how other cities operate parking ordinances). <br />
