Commissioner Anthony said the committee will be <br /> finishing up the physical aspects of the inspection soon and should have the <br /> written report for the April meeting. <br /> The following items were taken out of order: <br /> ORAL COMMUNICATIONS <br /> Building Inspector Jerry Schnell explained that the Code Enforcement staff <br /> will make a presentation before the City Council regarding ways to beautify <br /> certain areas of Redwood City. He spoke about the City of Escondido's award <br /> winning code enforcement program which utilizes volunteers and a staff of <br /> nine code enforcement officers. Mr. Schnell explained that one proposal is to <br /> improve the look of the El Camino Real between Woodside Road and Vera <br /> Avenue, which would include improvements to landscaping, median strips, <br /> and strict code enforcement monitoring. Funding for this proposal would <br /> cost approximately $70,000. He noted that the current staff of two code <br /> enforcement officers would not be able to handle the entire city and this <br /> additional project. <br /> Mr. Schnell passed out cards that citizens can complete and mail to the Code <br /> Enforcement staff when they see violations in their neighborhood. <br /> He noted that 390 citations were handed out last month by the two Code <br /> Enforcement officers. <br /> -Insurance-Give a Ride Show You Care <br /> Superintendent Centeno reported that Finance Director Brian Ponty is <br /> developing a formal bid for insurance for this program and it should be done <br /> by our March meeting. Chairperson Walsh, Commissioner Lloyd, and <br /> Superintendent Centeno will meet to discuss prior to the March meeting. <br /> ITEM 2-TRANSPORTATION UPDATE <br /> The Commissioners discussed the fact that Redi-Wheels has increased its <br /> one-way fares from $1.00 to $1.50 (an increase of 50%) and that riders are not <br /> pleased with the increase. The Commissioners discussed having Noreen <br /> Donohue report to the Commission on complaints received on Redi-Wheel <br /> service and Chairperson Walsh stated he would like to see written <br /> documentation of these complaints. Manager Griffith said she will obtain <br /> complaint statistics from Noreen Donohue and forward them to the <br /> Commissioners for their review. <br />
