Senior Affairs Commission Page 2 <br /> Minutes of Thursday, May 8, 1997 <br /> VMSAC and the Senior Affairs Commission should become involved in the <br /> hiring process and that these positions should be hired under contract to the <br /> City. Commissioner Anthony reviewed the City-paid positions at the Center <br /> and requested the exact monthly salary paid to each of these staff members. <br /> Commissioner Anthony said that when suggestions are given to staff, no <br /> action is taken nor are people provided with a response as to why a <br /> suggestion cannot be acted upon. He spoke about Manager Linda Griffith's <br /> relationship with the VMSAC and Executive Committee. He wants more of <br /> an explanation about why additional clerical salary support is needed from <br /> VMSAC and what clerical support is provided. He stated the Park <br /> Department has access to everything and that the Senior Affairs Commission <br /> is the watchdog agency and that the Commission should have access to all <br /> information. He felt there is difficulty getting information on programs. <br /> Chairperson Walsh asked for comments from the Commissioners regarding <br /> the oral report and they had none. He asked about what outreach efforts are <br /> being made at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center to bring many at-home <br /> seniors to the Center. <br /> Commissioner Anthony felt the Senior Affairs Commission should have a <br /> part in all decisions affecting seniors. The Commissioners discussed the <br /> VMSAC and its relationship with the Commission. The Senior Affairs <br /> Commission is one of the non-voting members of the VMSAC. <br /> Commissioner Anthony reported he will give all the Commissioners the <br /> written report at the June meeting and it will be discussed at the July meeting. <br /> b.) Insurance-Give a Ride Show You Care <br /> Chairperson Walsh announced that Manager Linda Griffith sent out <br /> information to all senior organizations at the Center to determine how many <br /> people will be able to volunteer for this program either as drivers or <br /> dispatchers. He wants to see if there is enough interest in the program before <br /> we purchase the insurance and asked staff to follow up with the various <br /> senior groups. <br /> ITEM 2 - FY96-97 WORKPLAN <br /> -Entrepreneurial/Innovation <br /> An informational meeting will be held on Friday, May 15 at 1:30pm with <br /> Kaiser Administrator Eric Rasmussen. Chairperson Walsh, Commissioner <br /> Walsh, and representatives from other cities will be in attendance. <br /> -Public Safety <br /> Chairperson Walsh reported he contacted Chief Bolanos regarding training <br /> for the postal workers.
