Senior Affairs Commission Page 2 <br /> Minutes of Thursday, September 11, 1997 <br /> San Mateo County. She indicated that Roberta Tracy of that organization would <br /> be happy to speak to the Commission. She reported that HICAP worked with the <br /> Senior Center to sponsor and moderate a Health Care Forum held in April of <br /> 1997. <br /> The group discussed various issues including the range of cost for in-home care <br /> ($8 to $75/hr) depending on the type of care needed and the total number of <br /> days of care needed. <br /> Chairperson Walsh noted he was pleased with the contact with local hospitals <br /> and the fact the Commission has made its presence known to both institutions. <br /> Manager Griffith distributed copies of the Senior Citizens 1997-98 Resource <br /> Directory and the 1997-98 Help at Home Booklet to all Commissioners. The <br /> group agreed that they would like to have a presentation from Ms. Tracy at their <br /> November meeting and that they may wish to contact the Presidents of some of <br /> the major health organizations to speak to the Commission in the future. <br /> ITEM 2 —WORKPLAN UPDATES <br /> -Economic Development - Lunch Program <br /> Commissioner Harrison spoke about the positive feedback she had received <br /> regarding the luncheon and speech by Mayor Hartnett. The group agreed that <br /> they would like to put on another event in November before the holidays. <br /> Commissioners shared ideas on a location and speaker with the Committee. <br /> Copies of the article that appeared in the Redwood City Tribune were distributed <br /> to the group. <br /> -Children, Youth and Education <br /> Commissioner Newell was unable to attend the meeting BUT asked staff and <br /> Commissioner Moran to report that his goals in this area were to: <br /> Work with Pam Thornburg to develop the John Gill Intergenerational Program as <br /> a model for other schools; to seek out connections with the Youth Advisory <br /> Committee; and to work with the Redwood City 2000 group around its <br /> Community Involvement team. <br /> ITEM 3 - REVIEW OF 96-97 GOALS <br /> Commissioners Moran and Harrison were asked to review the Commission's <br /> 96-97 goals and give a status report to the group. In general the Commissioners <br /> reported that most of the goals had been met and commented on individual <br /> items as indicated in italics. <br />
