She reported that HICAP worked with the Senior Center to sponsor and moderate a Health Care Forum held in April of 1997. The group discussed various issues including the range of cost for in-home care ($8 to $75/hr) depending on the type of care needed and the total number of days of care needed. Chairperson Walsh noted he was pleased with the contact with local hospitals and the fact the Commission has made its presence known to both institutions. Manager Griffith distributed copies of the Senior Citizens 1997-98 Resource Directory and the 1997-98 Help at Home Booklet to all Commissioners. The group agreed that they would like to have a presentation from Ms. Tracy at their November meeting and that they may wish to contact the Presidents of some of the major health organizations to speak to the Commission in the future. ITEM 2 —WORKPLAN UPDATES -Economic Development - Lunch Program Commissioner Harrison spoke about the positive feedback she had received regarding the luncheon and speech by Mayor Hartnett. The group agreed that they would like to put on another event in November before the holidays. Commissioners shared ideas on a location and speaker with the Committee. Copies of the article that appeared in the Redwood City Tribune were distributed to the group. -Children, Youth and Education Commissioner Newell was unable to attend the meeting BUT asked staff and Commissioner Moran to report that his goals in this area were to: Work with Pam Thornburg to develop the John Gill Intergenerational Program as a model for other schools; to seek out connections with the Youth Advisory Committee; and to work with the Redwood City 2000 group around its Community Involvement team. ITEM 3 - REVIEW OF 96-97 GOALS Commissioners Moran and Harrison were asked to review the Commission's 96-97 goals and give a status report to the group. In general the Commissioners reported that most of the goals had been met and commented on individual items as indicated in italics.
