Senior Affairs Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of Thursday, September 11, 1997 <br /> WORK PLAN 96-97 <br /> YOUTH, CHILDREN, SCHOOLS <br /> 1. SAC is represented on the Redwood City Elementary School District Citizens <br /> Advisory Committee to deal with the issue of quality facilities and impacts on <br /> Senior Property tax rates. Completed. Commissioner Anthony was our <br /> representative on this group. <br /> 2. SAC will encourage the establishment of intergenerational programs that <br /> bring senior volunteers into the schools. Additional work needed, as detailed <br /> in the report on youth children and schools. <br /> 3. SAC is represented on Countywide Youth Commission. Commissioner Lloyd <br /> is our representative <br /> 4. SAC is represented on Redwood City 2000 Community Action Team. <br /> Commissioner Moran is our representative. <br /> PUBLIC SAFETY <br /> 1. SAC will work with City Code Enforcement to encourage increased reporting <br /> of neighborhood problems. The City's Code Enforcement Officer made a <br /> presentation to the Commission. <br /> 2. SAC will help to sponsor training and education regarding how to identify <br /> situations of elder abuse working with the Police Department. Chief Bolanos <br /> came and spoke to the Commission and such training is ongoing. <br /> 3. SAC will review "Carrier Alert" Program for effectiveness and safety and <br /> make recommendations to the City Council. Chairperson Walsh met with <br /> Police and Postal Service staff. The sticker program is not used because it <br /> could unintentionally identify a frail senior. However postal employees and <br /> police staff are trained to look for and report unusual circumstances. <br /> 4. SAC will canvass public parking lots for lighting effectiveness. Not <br /> appropriate for Senior Affairs Commissioners. Chief of Police indicated that <br /> such reports should be forwarded to his department. <br /> ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT <br /> 1. SAC will monitor impact of suggested rate increases on senior populations. <br /> SAC has monitored all water and garbage rate increases. This effort is <br /> ongoing. <br /> 2. SAC will continue to encourage the development of affordable assisted living <br /> housing resources. No specific activity this year. <br />
