Senior Arfairs Commission Page 4 <br /> Minutes of Thursday, September 11, 1997 <br /> 3. SAC will evaluate the status of trailer parks with respect to affordability. <br /> No work accomplished this year. Interest in pursuing affordability of trailer <br /> parks. <br /> 4. SAC will evaluate the concept of low income senior mobile home parks. <br /> See above <br /> 5. SAC will make itself available to work with the business community on senior <br /> issues. Luncheon program is demonstrating support of local businesses. <br /> ENTREPRENEURIAL/INNOVATION <br /> 1. SAC will encourage use of City Rehabilitation Loan Program by Seniors. <br /> Housing staff made a presentation to the Commission on the availability of <br /> loans. <br /> 2. SAC will sponsor a forum designed to help Seniors become experts on <br /> Health Care Insurance Consumption (HMO'S) in conjunction with a Fall <br /> Consumer Education Fair. Veterans Memorial Senior Center Staff held the <br /> forum in April, 1997 <br /> 3. SAC will complete a detailed analysis of the Veterans Memorial Senior <br /> Center and Council Operation. Review completed August, 1997. <br /> 4. SAC will review & make recommendations on Senior Programs within the <br /> City. Ongoing <br /> 5. SAC will monitor National, State and Local legislation to assure positive <br /> economic results for seniors in such areas as Medi-Care, Medi-Cal, Social <br /> Security and private insurance. The SAC held an information forum on <br /> proposed changes to Medicare on July 23, 1997 and wrote follow-up letters <br /> to Senators Feinstein and Boxer and Representative Eshoo. <br /> 6. SAC will work with Catholic Health Care West/Sequoia Hospital to establish a <br /> long term health care program for senior residents of the Sequoia Hospital <br /> District such as improved in-home support services. At least three meetings <br /> have been held with the administration of Catholic Health Care West and <br /> Kaiser Hospital on the subject of their services and on in-home care. <br /> All Commissioners were asked to review these accomplishments and bring <br /> ideas for any additions or items that no longer need to be included to the <br /> October meeting. Chairperson Walsh asked that suggestions be reviewed <br /> with staff and perhaps members of the Advisory Committee for their input. <br />
