Senior Affairs Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of Thursday,February 12, 1998 <br /> ITEM 4 — FREQUENCY OF MEETINGS <br /> Commissioner Anthony stated that the April meeting will probably be the last <br /> meeting he will attend. Superintendent Centeno reviewed the schedule of <br /> meetings with the Commissioners. The Commissioners decided to wait until <br /> the March meeting to approve the revised meeting schedule. <br /> ITEM 5 — DEPARTMENT BUDGET PROCESS FISCAL YEAR 1998-2000 <br /> Superintendent Centeno reported that the City is beginning a 2 year budget <br /> process and gave the Commissioners a timeline of events. She noted that <br /> department staff will be busy getting all budget information ready by the end <br /> of April for the City Manager. City Council Budget Study Sessions will be <br /> held in June. Superintendent Centeno asked the Commissioners what types <br /> of programs or items they would like to see included in the budget process. <br /> The following ideas were recommended: <br /> 1 . Expand intergenerational opportunities with local schools. <br /> 2. Expand outreach effort to new seniors <br /> 3. Expand ability to serve more fragile or homebound seniors. <br /> ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> -Vice Chairperson Moran said she received a call from a resident who <br /> reported that the new SamTrans bus schedules and pricing will be announced <br /> soon. She was advised that prices were being increased from .25 cents to <br /> $1 .00 per trip. She will obtain more information for the March meeting. <br /> -Manager Griffith will be conducting an orientation of the Veterans Memorial <br /> Senior Center for the Commissioners on Wednesday, February 18 at <br /> 11 :30am. Chairperson Walsh and Commissioners Moran, Anthony, Lloyd, <br /> Newell, and Walsh will be attending. <br /> -Redwood City 2000 is sponsoring "Redwood City Comes Alive" to be held <br /> on February 26 at the Foresters Hall from 6:00pm to 12 midnight. Tickets <br /> are $10.00 which includes entertainment and food. <br /> -Commissioner Newell announced he attended the grand opening of the City <br /> Center Plaza and said he spoke to the project developer about building more <br /> affordable senior housing projects in Redwood City. <br /> -Commissioner Walsh announced she would not be at the March Commission <br /> meeting. <br /> ITEM 2 — PRESENTATION BY REDWOOD CITY TRAFFIC ENGINEER <br /> RICHARD HAYGOOD <br /> Redwood City's new Traffic Engineer Richard Haygood spoke to the <br /> Commission regarding how he will address the priorities given to him by the <br /> City Council. He explained that a "Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program" is <br /> being developed. He noted that due to increased traffic on main streets such <br /> as El Camino Real and Woodside Road, residential surface streets are seeing <br /> increased traffic as people try to get around those high traffic areas. Mr. <br /> Haygood said he is currently collecting data in the Redwood Oaks <br /> neighborhood regarding this issue. As part of the Neighborhood Traffic <br />
