Senior Affairs Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of Thursday,March 12, 1998 <br /> ITEM 4 — REQUEST FOR VOLUNTEERS TO SERVE ON A COMMITTEE TO <br /> REVIEW DEPARTMENT SUPPORTED BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS <br /> Superintendent Centeno explained that the Parks, Recreation and Community <br /> Services Department supports 4 different boards and commissions in addition <br /> to several City-wide committees. She reported that it is becoming more <br /> difficult to have a quorum at commission meetings; there is a lack applicants <br /> when openings occur; and there will be 21 potential vacancies in April on the <br /> four department commissions. Staff is looking for two volunteers from each <br /> of these commissions to evaluate what they do and look at ways to operate <br /> more efficiently; one suggestion is to have a combined department <br /> commission. <br /> Commissioners Moran and Anthony volunteered to participate on the sub- <br /> committee. <br /> ITEM 5 — LOCAL AND TIME OF MEETINGS <br /> The Commissioners discussed the proposed 1998 meeting schedule and felt <br /> that by reducing the number of meetings, they could still be just as <br /> productive. <br /> M/S Moran/Harrison: To adopt the 9 meeting proposed schedule for the <br /> Senior Affairs Commission on a one year trial basis. <br /> Chairperson Walsh stated the Commission could still hold emergency <br /> meetings if needed. The Commissioners decided to leave their meeting <br /> location and time the same for now. <br /> ITEM 6 — BUDGET UPDATE <br /> Superintendent Centeno stated that staff is working on a 2 year budget and <br /> that the items suggested by the Commission at their February meeting have <br /> been incorporated into Manager Linda Griffith's objectives. She announced <br /> the City Council budget study session will be held in June and invited all <br /> Commissioners to attend. <br /> ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> -Jack and Barbara Greenalch were honored at the Arbor Day ceremony <br /> sponsored by the Native Daughters of the Golden West on March 7 at the <br /> Veterans Memorial Senior Center. <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was adjourned at <br /> 5:00pm to be reconvened at 3:00pm on Thursday, April 9, 1998 at the Fair <br /> Oaks Senior Center, 2600 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, California. <br />
