Senior Affairs Commission Page 2 <br /> Minutes of Thursday,June 11, 1998 <br /> -Discussion on shifts in location of meeting, time, day of week <br /> The Commissioners discussed changing their meeting time and location. It <br /> was agreed that the Commission meetings could be held either on the <br /> second, third or fourth Thursday of each month at the Veterans Memorial <br /> Senior Center from 1 :30-3:30pm. Superintendent Centeno will check the <br /> availability of meeting rooms at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center before <br /> a meeting date is finalized. <br /> M/S Moran/M.Walsh: To change the Commission meeting date to the <br /> second, third or fourth Thursday of each month; <br /> meetings will be held at the Veterans Memorial Senior <br /> Center from 1 :30 to 3:30pm. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> ITEM 2— WORKPLAN UPDATES <br /> -Economic Development Luncheon, Downtown Historic Walk Critique <br /> and Future Plans <br /> Commissioner Harrison reported that 35-40 people attended the historic walk <br /> on May 16 and 28 people attended the luncheon that followed. It was <br /> suggested that the next luncheon include a tour of the new San Mateo <br /> County Historical Museum which will open later this year. Chairperson <br /> Walsh suggested having the luncheon at Café Amore located in the new City <br /> Hall Plaza. September 1 was mentioned as a possible date for the next <br /> event; Chairperson Walsh will check with Mayor Howard to check her <br /> availability to speak. He also suggested having docents give tours of the <br /> new City Hall and Council chambers. Superintendent Centeno will reserve <br /> the Council chambers from 12noon-3:30pm. The Commissioners discussed <br /> having live music at the luncheon. <br /> -Senior Housing, Mobile Home Parks <br /> Commissioner Walsh stated she would like to be on this sub-committee. She <br /> made a report on Harbor Village Mobile Home Park from information she has <br /> been collecting on this topic. Commissioner Walsh said she also contacted <br /> the City's Community Development Department to obtain information about <br /> construction projects in process; she noted the construction of 5,500 square <br /> foot office building behind the Department of Motor Vehicles building and a <br /> 250,000 square foot retail building at Woodside Road and Bay Road. <br /> ITEM 3 — UPDATE ON BOARD AND COMMISSION RECRUITMENT AND <br /> JOINT STUDY SESSION WITH CITY COUNCIL <br /> Chairperson Walsh reported that Commissioner Walsh was interviewed by <br /> the City Council last night for her re-appointment to the Commission; there <br /> are currently four vacancies on the Commission including Commissioner <br /> Walsh's position but only her application was received. Superintendent <br /> Centeno said because there were not enough candidates, she has been <br /> working with the City Clerk's Office to extend the application deadline. <br /> Chairperson Walsh felt there needs to be a longer application period and said <br /> he was not pleased with the mailing done by the City. Superintendent <br /> Centeno explained the Council revised its application process and that a more <br /> extensive than normal advertising process was used. The City Clerk's Office <br /> was supplied with mailing lists by each department; our department provided <br /> mailing lists for every group we have including the economic development <br />
