Chairperson Walsh developed two letters to encourage <br /> people to apply for commission vacancies; one letter will be sent to our <br /> luncheon attendees, and the other to local churches. He read the letters to <br /> the Commission for their comments. He said he would like to have letters <br /> sent out next week and he will follow up with phone calls to the churches <br /> and will ask the pastors to include this information in their church <br /> newsletters. Chairperson Walsh asked the Commissioners to assist in <br /> making calls to individuals to encourage them to apply. Commissioner Walsh <br /> suggesting making appointments with the local pastors to discuss the <br /> contents of the letter and to encourage applications from their parishioners. <br /> It was agreed that letters will be sent out early next week so that follow up <br /> phone calls can be made by the Commissioners a few days later. <br /> Superintendent Centeno will call Mayor Howard to advise her that the <br /> Commission would like to take an active part in the recruitment process and <br /> to discuss extending the application deadline. Chairperson Walsh will pick up <br /> the mailing lists and the Commissioners agreed to meet at the CAB on June <br /> 22 at 9:30am to make follow up phone calls. <br /> Superintendent Centeno advised the Commissioners their Study Session with <br /> the Council will be held on September 14 and asked the Commissioners to <br /> bring topics to the July meeting. <br /> ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> -Dr. Willey announced that Bonnie Miller and Diana Johnson are new <br /> members of the TEWCI Board; there is still one vacancy on the board. <br /> -Chairperson Walsh spoke about the small theater proposed in the downtown <br /> area and felt it would be good for seniors who cannot travel far. It was <br /> suggested that staff from the Community Development Department speak at <br /> a future meeting to discuss developments planned for Redwood City. <br /> -Chairperson Walsh suggested having a member of the Commission attend <br /> Council meetings on major discussion topics and report back to the <br /> Commission. <br /> -Commissioner Walsh reported the new owner of Woodside Terrace raised all <br /> tenant rents $100.00 per month. <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was adjourned at <br /> 5:05pm to be reconvened at 3:00pm on Thursday, July 9, 1998 at the <br /> Veterans Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City, <br /> California. <br />
