He asked that this item be placed <br /> on the April agenda for further discussion. He would like to have seniors in <br /> the community attend our meeting to provide the Commission with input on <br /> the needs assessment. <br /> Commissioner Nobles said she will get information from her neighbor who is <br /> an Aetna client; she was advised that the service at Sequoia has gotten <br /> better. <br /> Commissioner Borgens spoke about the customer service problem at Anna <br /> Eshoo's Washington, D.C. office and noted that she received an apology. <br /> ITEM 2 - HISTORY OF FAIR OAKS SENIOR CENTER, PART I <br /> Commissioner Nobles provided a written chronological history of the Fair <br /> Oaks Senior Center to each of the Commissioners. She reviewed the history <br /> of the center from 1966 to 1985 and spoke about many individuals who <br /> were instrumental in the center's development. She also shared many <br /> pictures and newspaper articles from this period of time. Commissioner <br /> Nobles will also be making this presentation to the Board of the Fair Oaks <br /> Senior Center. <br /> ITEM 3 - WORKPLAN UPDATES <br /> -Economic Development Luncheons <br /> Commissioner L.Walsh stated the next luncheon would be held during the <br /> later part of April on a Friday or Saturday at Lathop House followed by a tour <br /> of historical museum. Commissioner Carpe suggested getting a box lunch <br /> from Café Amore and eating at the historical museum. Jean Cloud was <br /> mentioned as a possible speaker. The Commissioners discussed possible <br /> dates and selected Friday, April 30 as the next luncheon date. Commissioner <br /> L.Walsh will check with the Historical Museum regarding the date, and <br /> Chairperson Moran will contact Jean Cloud to see if she would be our guest <br /> speaker. <br /> -Housing, Transportation and Employment <br /> Commissioner Borgens stated there will be a meeting next week of the <br /> housing sub-committee; she handed out copies of what will be discussed at <br /> the meeting. She noted that the need for housing is far greater than what is <br /> currently available. She spoke about considering Rolison Road as a possible <br /> site to build low income units. She said many seniors are concerned with <br /> the affordability of staying in their current home and that shared housing is <br /> an option that should be considered by seniors. Commissioner Borgens also <br /> spoke on the long term plan of the sub-committee. <br /> Paul Zulak suggested contacting the American Society on Aging for more <br /> information on sharing housing. <br /> Commissioner Borgens said she would like to have mobile home owners be <br /> able to rent their available units, but they cannot do so because mobile <br /> homes are governed under State regulations versus City regulations, and <br /> renting is prohibited. <br />
