Senior Affairs Commission Page 2 <br /> Minutes of Thursday, May 13, 1999 <br /> facilities. She noted that it is hard to ask for funds for an established senior <br /> center. Commissioner Nobles brought in a 5 year corporate plan prepared for <br /> United Way in the late 80's for the Commissioners' to review. <br /> ITEM 2 — WORKPLAN UPDATES <br /> -Housing, Transportation and Employment <br /> No report. <br /> -Health Care <br /> • Report back on meeting with Congresswoman Eshoo <br /> Commissioner M.Walsh reported on the meeting she attended with <br /> Commissioners Borgens and L.Walsh with Congresswoman Anna Eshoo. <br /> She stated that Congresswoman Eshoo complimented the Commission on its <br /> efforts, was very supportive, and asked us not to quit working on this <br /> important topic. The Congresswoman suggested that we need the support <br /> of a large organization on our project and provided a list of potential groups <br /> to the Commissioners. Commissioner Borgens also suggested showing <br /> support of Senator Speier's legislation. Commissioner M.Walsh suggested <br /> having Commissioner Leo Walsh contact the organizations on the list and to <br /> lead the Commission in its efforts on this matter. <br /> M/S M.Walsh/Borgens: To provide the call list to Commissioner Leo Walsh <br /> for his organization and direction and the rest of the Commissioners will <br /> support him. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> • Sequoia Medical Clinic <br /> The Commissioners discussed the closing of the Sequoia Medical Clinic and <br /> the impact on the community. Chairperson Moran provided a copy of a letter <br /> she received from her physician who is located in that facility. <br /> • Community Needs Assessment <br /> The Commissioners received a copy of a letter sent to the Sequoia Hospital <br /> administrator asking for this assessment. <br /> -Outreach, Public Awareness <br /> • Update regarding timing of traffic signals <br /> Commissioner M.Walsh reported she made several calls to the CalTrans <br /> representative responsible for timing of traffic lights but he will not respond <br /> to her calls so she may make a personal visit to him. <br /> • Report on Council discussion on water rate increases <br /> Commissioner M.Walsh reported on the Council meeting and stated that no <br /> decision has been made on increases; two tier rates were discussed and 10 <br /> unit lifeline rates. She noted that 500 goats are coming to Redwood City to <br /> help with weed abatement at our water tank sites. <br /> • TCI Rate Increase <br /> Commissioner M.Walsh stated her TCI bill went up $1 .50 per month, which <br /> is a minimal charge but may not be affordable to many seniors on fixed <br /> incomes. She suggested having a representative from TCI come to speak to <br /> the Commission; Commissioner Borgens will contact TCI regarding this <br /> request. <br />
