Senior Affairs Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of Thursday, February 10, 2000 <br /> Referring back to Item 1 — Elder Abuse <br /> Commissioner Nobles stated that many people do not report their cases of <br /> elder abuse to the Police Department. She proposed that a public forum be <br /> held in Redwood City with the San Mateo County Adult Protective Services <br /> Department to educate the public. <br /> M/S C.Nobles/J.Borgens: To hold a senior abuse forum in the near future. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> Commissioner Nobles also presented a draft flyer of the event for review by <br /> the Commissioners. She suggested that reporters from the local newspapers <br /> be invited to attend. The forum would be held in the afternoon for the <br /> convenience of the seniors attending. <br /> ITEM 4 — WORKPLAN UPDATES <br /> -Economic Development Luncheon <br /> 1. Follow up on possible Port Tour and speakers <br /> Commissioner L.Walsh stated he is interested in working with Port <br /> Commissioner Dick Dodge concerning having a luncheon during May or June <br /> at the Port. Mr. Dodge is currently out of town and Commissioner L.Walsh <br /> will follow up on this proposal. Dr. Borke was suggested as another possible <br /> speaker for our luncheon series. <br /> -Housing, Transportation, Employment <br /> 1. Traffic Crossings at Stafford Park <br /> Commissioner M.Walsh stated she spoke with Mike Bursak of the Oak <br /> Knoll/Edgewood Neighborhood Association regarding placing a stop sign near <br /> Stafford Park and Mr. Bursak agreed with the suggestion. Commissioner <br /> M.Walsh also spoke to Traffic Engineer Rich Haygood regarding installing <br /> traffic crossings at Stafford Park and Mr. Haygood stated he has received <br /> several complaints about the heavy traffic and pedestrians having difficulty in <br /> crossing the street at that location. Commissioner L.Walsh said that four <br /> new signs have been installed on eastbound and westbound Hopkins Avenue <br /> to slow traffic but felt the signs were not working satisfactorily. <br /> Comments from the Casa de Redwood residents: <br /> -Are there any speed limit signs on Veterans Boulevard? <br /> -Request for more Police car coverage on Veterans Boulevard to monitor <br /> traffic <br /> -Suggestion to videotape traffic for one day in front of Casa de Redwood for <br /> Police Department <br /> Commissioners M.Walsh and Borgens suggested 2-3 Commissioners meet <br /> with representatives of the traffic division of the Police Department regarding <br /> Casa de Redwood traffic issues. <br /> -Outreach, Public Awareness <br /> Commissioner Borgens reported that the Strategic Planning Committee has <br /> developed a matrix wish list and passed out information to the <br /> Commissioners. <br />
