Senior Affairs Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of Thursday,April 13, 2000 <br /> during the negotiations process, but we are hoping for a smooth <br /> transition of programming. <br /> ITEM 3 - STATUS OF INVITATION TO PRESIDENTIAL <br /> CANDIDATES <br /> Commissioner L.Walsh reported on the status of our letters to: <br /> John McCain-received a phone call from his Virginia office <br /> acknowledging our letter <br /> George Bush-received a letter from Bush after election <br /> Al Gore-no response to our letter <br /> ITEM 4 - WORKPLAN UPDATES <br /> -Economic Development Luncheon <br /> Commissioner L.Walsh reported that the luncheon is being planned for <br /> either June 1 or June 8 and Mayor Ruskin will be the guest speaker. It <br /> was suggested that the luncheon be held at the bookstore meeting <br /> room next to Café Amore and Café Amore would provide the catering. <br /> It was also suggesting combining our June meeting with the luncheon <br /> on June 8. <br /> -Housing, Transportation, Employment <br /> Commissioner M.Walsh reported speaking to Traffic Engineer Rich <br /> Haygood regarding the traffic crossings at Stafford Park and Casa de <br /> Redwood. Mr. Haygood stated that he has received many complaints <br /> about Stafford Park and is re-examing the issue. Commissioner <br /> M.Walsh reported that the traffic signals were re-timed at Veterans <br /> and Maple Street. There was discussion about the crosswalk at <br /> Hansen Way at Veterans and the problem with sloping curb cuts that <br /> do not meet crosswalks at various locations in the City. <br /> -Outreach, Public Awareness <br /> Chairperson Moran and Commissioner Borgens attended the Mayor's <br /> meeting with the chairpersons of the City's boards and commissions <br /> and neighborhood boards on April 6. <br /> ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> -Commissioner Nobles announced a presentation on elder abuse will <br /> be held on May 24 from 10:00am to 12:00noon in the Sunset Room at <br /> the Veterans Memorial Senior Center. Representatives from the Adult <br /> Protective Services and Redwood City Police Department will provide <br /> information to the community. Commissioner Nobles asked the <br />
