Senior Affairs Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of Thursday,May 11, 2000 <br /> Commissioner Nobles spoke about the elder abuse program which will be <br /> held at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center on May 24 at 10:00am. Please <br /> come and invite others to attend this important event. Chairperson Moran <br /> will announce this event at the May 22 City Council meeting under oral <br /> communications. <br /> -Economic Development Luncheon <br /> Commissioner L.Walsh announced our next luncheon will be held on Friday, <br /> June 2 at 1 :00pm at Caffe Amore and Mayor Ira Ruskin will be our guest <br /> speaker. Please distribute the invitations to others and mail in your <br /> reservation forms and payment to the address on the form. <br /> ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> -Superintendent Centeno announced that four Commissioners will have terms <br /> expiring this month. Application packets were provided to those <br /> Commissioners; they need to be completed and returned to the City Clerk by <br /> Friday, May 26. <br /> -Superintendent Centeno announced that May is "Older Americans Month" <br /> and she passed out a flyer with special activities at the Veterans Memorial <br /> Senior Center featuring this theme. <br /> -There will be a Summer Nights Dinner Dance on June 8 at the Senior Center <br /> featuring salmon dinner and Jeff Filippi's Big Band; cost is $15.00 per <br /> person. <br /> -Our Summer Concert Series will begin on June 21 at Stafford Park. We will <br /> offer a total of six concerts held every other Wednesday. <br /> -The Commissioners discussed combining their June meeting with the <br /> luncheon on June 2 and decided to hold their regular meeting on June 8. <br /> The meeting location will be in Room 20 at the Senior Center Annex. It was <br /> suggested that the meeting location be moved permanently back to Room 20 <br /> due to sharing space with the luncheon program in the Redwood Room. This <br /> matter will be discussed at the next meeting. <br /> -Commissioner Harrison noted there was an article about the Port of <br /> Redwood City in the Wall Street Journal recently and Mayor Ruskin was <br /> quoted in the article. <br /> -Commissioner M.Walsh said that in Judy Buchan's "RC Express" newsletter, <br /> it was mentioned that Jackie Speier is trying to get a bill passed which would <br /> have our prescription drugs charged the same price as in Canada. <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was adjourned at <br /> 2:23pm to be reconvened at 1 :00pm on Thursday, June 8, 2000 at the <br /> Veterans Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City, <br /> California. <br />
