Senior Affairs Commission Page 2 <br /> Minutes of Thursday,August 10, 2000 <br /> ITEM 2 -SENIOR HEALTH CARE ISSUES COUNCIL REPORT AND <br /> COUNCIL MEETING DATE <br /> Superintendent Centeno reminded everyone that the Commission's report to <br /> Council will be heard on Monday, August 14 and Commissioner Leo Walsh will <br /> be making the presentation on behalf of the Commission. Commissioner <br /> L.Walsh announced that he has been gathering information for the <br /> presentation and asked others to speak to the Council about their personal <br /> experiences regarding the loss of health service in the community. <br /> Commissioner L.Walsh spoke about his presentation and stated that he would <br /> like to have legislators meet with HMOs and doctors to try and resolve this <br /> issue. <br /> Commissioner Marie Walsh stated she heard about HR Bill 4461 sponsored by <br /> Congressman Byron Dargen (D-North Dakota) which requests pharmaceutical <br /> companies to bring their United States drug prices in line with Canada and <br /> Mexico. She indicated that she would like to have a letter sent to our Federal <br /> Representatives Congressman Tom Lantos and Congresswoman Anna Eshoo <br /> to support this bill. <br /> M/S M.Walsh/7.Borgens: To have the Commission send a letter to <br /> legislators Tom Lantos and Anna Eshoo to request that they support <br /> bill HR4461. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> ITEM 3 - WORKPLAN UPDATES <br /> -Housing, Transportation, Employment <br /> Commissioner Borgens reported that she and other community members <br /> have visited vacant properties which the Redevelopment Agency might <br /> consider for senior housing. She mentioned that Redwood Commons is not <br /> renewing their HUD contact and it could go to market rate costs; the matter <br /> is currently under negotiation. Habitat construction has begun on Rolison <br /> Road. Commissioner M.Walsh mentioned the building moratorium recently <br /> passed by the City Council and asked that someone speak on this topic. She <br /> agreed to contact the Community Development Director to speak on this <br /> subject at the September meeting. <br /> -Economic Development Luncheon <br /> Commissioner L.Walsh reported that Ted Fang is available to speak on <br /> Tuesday, October 10; location of the luncheon will be announced. <br /> Commissioner L.Walsh also provided additional names and addresses for the <br /> Commission mailing list. He suggested that an ad be placed in the <br /> newspaper two weeks before the luncheon to advertise the event. <br />
