Senior Affairs Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of Thursday, September 14,2000 <br /> Manager Griffith announced the Veterans Memorial Senior Center is now <br /> offering "Meals to Go" which is very popular. Seniors are now able to <br /> purchase full meals for take-out at a cost of $3.50. Commissioner Borgens <br /> complimented staff and said she has received great comments from seniors <br /> about the program. Manager Griffiths stated that during the first three <br /> weeks of offering the program, 187 take-out meals were provided to seniors. <br /> -Economic Development Luncheon <br /> Commissioner L. Walsh announced that the October 12 luncheon will be held <br /> at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center. Lunch will be held from 12:00- <br /> 1:00pm in the dining room and then will adjourn to the Goldstar Room from <br /> 1:00-2:OOpm to hear Mr. Ted Fang speak. The Commissioners were <br /> provided with several luncheon invitations to invite other people to attend the <br /> event. Commissioner Grove suggested inviting journalism students from <br /> local high schools and colleges to attend the event and offered to pay for ten <br /> students. Commissioner L. Walsh asked for suggestions on topics for Mr. <br /> Fang to speak on at the luncheon. <br /> -Strategic Planning Committee Update <br /> No report at this time. <br /> ITEM 5 — CANCELLATION OF OCTOBER 12 COMMISSION MEETING <br /> Chairperson Moran announced that our October 12 meeting has been <br /> cancelled due to our luncheon being held on the same date. The next <br /> Commission meeting will be held November 9. <br /> ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> -Manager Griffith invited the Commissioners to attend the October 4 meeting <br /> of the Veterans Memorial Senior Center Advisory Council at 9:30am in the <br /> Sunset Room. <br /> -Commissioner L. Walsh asked for ideas of future guest speakers for our <br /> luncheon series. <br /> M/S M.Walsh/3.Borgens: To send a thank you letter to Director <br /> Nelson for speaking to the Commission today. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> -Superintendent Centeno spoke about the process for electing new officers: <br /> November will be officer nominations; December will be election of officers; <br /> new officers will assume their positions in January 2001 for the full calendar <br /> year. <br />
