Senior Affairs Commission Page 2 <br /> Minutes of Thursday,February 8,2001 <br /> The Commissioners had the following comments: <br /> -Consider the combination of commercial/residential buildings. <br /> -Remove parking meters and issue parking permits to residents instead. <br /> -Support the idea of a large downtown plaza. <br /> ITEM 1 -DISCUSSION& ADOPTION OF 2001 WORKPLAN <br /> This item was not discussed in January 11th meeting since not all Commissioners were in <br /> attendance. Superintendent Centeno and Manager Griffith met after the December 14th <br /> meeting and developed a plan of action in conjunction with Council's priorities and <br /> objectives. The Commissioners discussed the proposed 2001 Work Plan and agreed to <br /> form committees for the purpose of investigating the needs of seniors regarding housing, <br /> health and transportation. <br /> The Transportation Committee will include Commissioner Moran and Carpe <br /> investigating alternative transportation and improvements. Commissioner Borgens will <br /> serve on the Housing Committee researching rent stabilization,tax issues and costs of <br /> staying in one's home. The Public Awareness&Access to Services Issues Committee <br /> will include Commissioners Borgens, Grove and Harrison in regard to senior health and <br /> wellness issues, including long distance caregiving and the need for financial support of <br /> Senior Services. Commissioner Grove will review the 2000 Census figures and draft a <br /> questionnaire by the March 8th meeting soliciting the public's ratings of importance for <br /> transportation,housing and health issues. <br /> The first item of the Public Awareness&Access to Services Issues to establish operating <br /> principles was removed at the suggestion of Commissioner Grove. <br /> M/S Grove/Walsh : To adopt three part 2001 Work Plan. Motion passed. <br /> ITEM 2 -WORKPLAN UPDATES <br /> -Economic Development Luncheon <br /> Commissioner L. Walsh reported that Mr. Fuchs had accepted the invitation to speak on <br /> March 22, 2001 and suggested the Commissioners contact other organizations to make <br /> them aware of the event. It was reported that the cost of the luncheon would be $8.00 per <br /> person and be a fundraiser for the Nutrition Program at the Veterans Memorial Senior <br /> Center. <br /> -Strategic Planning Committee Update <br /> Commissioner Borgens will attend Senior Housing Commission meeting. <br />
