Senior Affairs Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of Thursday,February 8,2001 <br /> ITEM 3 -UPDATE ON EMERGENCY UTILITY PROGRAMS <br /> Commissioner Borgens reported that PG&E had cancelled all emergency programs as of <br /> February 8, 2001 due to the huge demand. Commissioner M. Walsh said that some <br /> assistance was available through H.E.A.P.. Director Centeno reported that <br /> weatherization programs,bill payment and balanced payment plans are offered by the <br /> North Peninsula Neighborhood Association and St. Vincent de Paul Society. Fair Oaks <br /> Community Center and Senior Services at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center have <br /> further information. Manager Griffith will provide Commissioners with Help At Home <br /> booklets. Director Centeno stated that a utility users tax increase and possible change of <br /> percentages charged might be an issue for priority setting by Council on Saturday, <br /> February 10, 2001. These funds go to the Capital Improvement program. <br /> ITEM 4-FUTURE COMMISSION MEETING AT SANDPIPER <br /> Senior Affairs Commission would like to meet at Sandpiper Community Center on their <br /> regular meeting dates in either April or May 2001. Administrative Assistant Denise <br /> Monroe will confirm and report. <br /> ITEM 6-CAMPAIGN FINANCING <br /> Commissioner L. Walsh requested that Senior Affairs Commission send a letter to state <br /> officials requesting limits on funds being donated to public officials campaigns. <br /> Commissioner Borgens suggested contacting national organizations like Common Cause <br /> as well as senators and congresspersons. Commissioner Grove recommended writing to <br /> newspapers regarding the issue, urging the public write to their public representatives or <br /> to email Common Cause requesting a form letter for public distribution which individuals <br /> could then mail to their representatives. <br /> M/S L. Walsh/Borgens: To write letter to Common Cause supporting campaign <br /> finance reform and seeking their assistance. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> -Director Centeno stated the City Council was meeting Saturday, February 10, 2001, <br /> from 8:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the half-year discussion of priorities. <br /> -Manager Griffith invited all to the Veterans Memorial Senior Center on Saturday, March <br /> 10, 2001 for the Arbor Day event from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and the Women's History <br /> Celebration from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. featuring delightful displays, entertainment and <br /> refreshments. Tickets are$7.00 for general admission, $5.00 for seniors and students. <br /> -Commissioner Grove announced the Redwood City Education Foundation Fundraiser on <br /> Friday, March 30, 2001 at Foresters Hall. Dinner and silent auction are featured. Tickets <br /> are $15.00 to $20.00. <br />
