Senior Affairs Commission Page 4
Minutes of Thursday,May 10,2001
M/S Grove/Borgens: To have the June 21 luncheon at Harry's
Hofbrau.
Commissioner M. Walsh stated that at previous downtown locations, people
had problems hearing the guest speakers. She also felt that luncheon
attendance has doubled since being moved to the Senior Center.
Commissioner Carpe expressed her disappointment with the service at the
Senior Center and felt the room used for the guest speaker portion of the
luncheon was not very appealing. Commissioner L. Walsh stated in the past
four years of organizing the luncheons, only 30 to 45 people regularly attend.
He felt the most critical part of the luncheon program is getting an audience.
Commissioner Moran stated that the Interservice Coordinating Council moved
their regular meetings from Harry's Hofbrau because of the bad acoustics and
noise issues. Chairperson Harrison said she was also concerned with
attendance. Manager Griffith checked the Senior Center schedule and
determined that the theater was available for the guest speaker portion of
the luncheon. Commissioner Carpe felt the Commissioners should be the
"hosts" of the luncheon and should act that way at the luncheons.
Motion failed. (Yes-0, No-7)
M/S Grove/M.Walsh: To have the June 21 luncheon at the Veterans
Memorial Senior Center.
Motion passed unanimously.
Commissioners Moran and L. Walsh left the meeting at 3:05pm.
Manager Griffith showed two videos; one entitled "With A Little Help From
Our Friends" and another on the adult day health program at Goldman
Institute on Aging which used to be part of the Mt. Zion Hospital. Manager
Griffith spoke about adult day care and adult day health programs and
whether there is a need for more programs, or a need for a higher level of
adult care in this area.
-Strategic Planning Committee
No Report.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
There were no announcements.
The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was adjourned at
3:30pm to be reconvened at 1:00pm on Thursday, June 14, 2001 at the
Veterans Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City,
California.
