Senior Affairs Commission Page 3
Minutes of Thursday,May 10,2001
Commissioners discussed the Fair Oaks Senior Center which has contracted
with RediWheels to provide transportation for seniors.
-Housing
Commissioners M. Walsh and Borgens attended a meeting of the Housing
Element Sub-Committee where affordable housing was discussed.
M/S L.Walsh/Carpe: To send campaign finance reform letter to Anna
Eshoo and Tom Lantos.
Motion passed unanimously.
M/S M.Walsh/Moran: To bring names of elected officials to the next
meeting to develop a mailing list for Commission letters.
Motion passed unanimously.
-Public Awareness &Access to Services
Chairperson Harrison and Commissioner L. Walsh will be visiting the adult
day care facility in San Carlos tomorrow and will report back to the
Commission at the June meeting.
Commissioner Grove provided the Commissioners with a copy of a draft
senior survey for their review and comments. She explained we are looking
for 500 responses from the community, not necessary from people who
currently attend the Veterans Memorial Senior Center. The intent is to have
this survey externally focused to get a good representation from our senior
community. The Commissioners discussed ways to get the survey into the
community and several of the Commissioners volunteered to assist in this
project. Commissioner Grove estimated it might take 25 volunteers a week
or more to gather the survey results and then the results would need to be
analyzed. She asked the Commissioners to decide whether they felt the
survey had value and if we should proceed. Manager Griffith suggested that
someone could be hired to analyze the information. She confirmed that U. S.
Census information will not be available until the end of the year.
M/S Borgens/Moran: To proceed with this survey and look at the
logistics of this project.
Motion passed unanimously.
Commissioner Borgens left the meeting at 2:55pm.
-Senior Luncheon
Commissioner Carpe stated that she has reserved Harry's Hofbrau for the
location of the June 21 luncheon. She announced that Mike Scanlon has
agreed to be our guest speaker. The Commissioners discussed moving the
luncheon location to Harry's Hofbrau from the Senior Center.
