Walsh: To accept the revisions adding
Commissioner Marie Walsh to Transportation Committee, adding
Commissioner Leo Walsh to Public Awareness & Access to Services
Issues Committee and including "legislative issues" in description of
that committee.
Motion passed.
- Transportation
Manager Griffith presented for Commissioner M. Walsh in her absence.
Menlo Park, Palo Alto and Stanford have shuttles. Federal Grant #5310
allows communities up to $65,000.00 for shuttles. The City would need to
match 20% of the Federal Grant of $65,000.00 and the Senior Center would
need to supply the rest of funding necessary for a shuttle service. Menlo
Park's shuttle is business-provided, transporting workers from the train
station to businesses in the morning and back in the evenings. It is available
for public use between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Manager Griffith reported
that Paul Wirthlin, a VMSC patron, was involved in implementing the Menlo
Park shuttle service and has informed her that Federal funds were used for
such a program. Foster City has the "Senior Express" which provides low
cost, wheelchair accessible transportation to Foster City residents age 55 and
over from their homes to the Foster City Senior Wing, then to shopping and
errands and back home. The Veterans Memorial Senior Center Advisory
Council plans to provide funding for five weekdays of van service. There is
limited van use now with 22 riders scheduled. Committee member John Dempsey thought that
capital funds for a bus would be available to the City or the VMSC Advisory
Council. Susan Houston reported that Rediwheels transports 18 riders daily
at Fair Oaks Senior Center. The paperwork is cumbersome and schedules
were difficult initially, but have improved. Fees are $1.00 or $1.50 one way.
- Housing
Commissioner Borgens stated that Mr. Dempsey had sufficiently addressed
Housing issues for this meeting. She added that statistics are needed in
order to make housing progress. Mr. Dempsey stated that HUD has Federal
