Walsh reported that pertinent legislation is currently stalled
in the State Assembly. AB#628 regarding Senior Housing passed the House
by 55-19 and is now in the Senate Appropriations Committee.
Commissioners L. Walsh and Borgens will meet with John Dempsey and
follow up with a draft letter that will be submitted with the minutes.
AB#1111 regarding financial abuse is in committee. The bill passed the
House but has no funding to support it. SB# 370, Fall/Injury Prevention and
AB#109, Elder and Dependent Adult Abuse are not part of Commission's
work plan and will not be pursued by the Senior Affairs Commission.
Manager Griffith spoke about Commissioner L. Walsh's letter about the
energy crisis and stated that a new lighting and lamping program is in place
in City facilities. She met with Park and Facilities Superintendent Gary Hover
who reported a 4% decrease in energy use since the program began and the
savings will pay for the program four times over in 5 years.
Commissioner Grove asked for comments regarding the letter she drafted to
City Council requesting funding for analysis of the questionnaire. Manager
Griffith stated that she met with Director Centeno regarding the procedure
for funding requests and a staff report may be necessary. Manager Griffith
will contact Magda Gonzalez regarding the cost of a survey and if information
is available, will forward this information to the Commissioners in their
September packets.
Manager Griffith presented the Participant Profile 2000/2001 from Rosener
House which is currently licensed for 65 people. A new building at Rosener
House will open in October 2001 which will be licensed for 80 participants.
Specific dementia programming and cross programming will be available at
the facility. Transition from one program to another will also be possible and
easier. Manager Griffith stated that it is more desirable for Senior Center
employees to have a health background and for joint marketing efforts by
Rosener House, Fair Oaks Senior Center, Veterans Memorial Senior Center,
Canada College and Sequoia Hospital as "South County Programs". The
collaboration of different agencies working together would provide people
with a better picture of the "continuum of care" services that are available in
the area.
- Senior Luncheon
Commissioner Grove, reporting on behalf of Commissioner Carpe, reported
that she was pleased with the last Senior Affairs Luncheon and Mr. Scanlon's
presentation.
