Senior Affairs Commission Page 6
Minutes of Thursday,August 9,2001
requested for the event. The Administrative Clerk will obtain the luncheon
mailing list from the Secretary.
The Commissioners discussed a possible trip to the San Mateo Historical
Museum in Redwood City for a docent-guided tour and box lunch from the
Veterans Memorial Senior Center or inviting historical writer Michael Svanevik
of The San Mateo County Times to be a guest for lunch and speak
afterwards. Other possible speakers included representatives from TIES,
Assistant District Attorney's office, PG&E and Redwood City School
Superintendent Ron Crates. Manager Griffith suggested planning speakers in
coordination with monthly themes being used at the Senior Centers as a way
to improve relations and tie in with themes already in place. September is
"Back to School" month and a history writer would be an appropriate
speaker. It was agreed that Mr. Svanevik would be invited to speak at the
Senior Affairs Commission luncheon on September 27, 2001 and that
Commissioner L. Walsh would meet with Joni Kelly to arrange a trip to the
Historical Museum in October 2001. Manager Griffith recommended the use
of the regular VMSC lunch reservation procedures for Senior Affairs
Commission luncheons to minimize work and confusion. Participants would
call-in their reservation to the Hospitality Desk at a cost of $3.50 per meal.
Any additional donations to the Senior Center are welcome and graciously
accepted.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
There were no announcements.
The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was adjourned at 3:05
p.m. to be reconvened at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2001 at the
Veterans Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City,
California.
