Senior Affairs Commission Page 2 <br /> Minutes of Thursday, February 14,2002 <br /> ITEM 1 - Commission Business <br /> -Council Priorities <br /> Manager Griffith reviewed the eight priorities recently established by Council <br /> and requested the Commissioners review their work plan and whether to any <br /> changes are suggested. <br /> -Work Plan <br /> The Commissioners decided to keep the Transportation, Housing and Public <br /> Awareness & Access to Services on the work plan and to schedule tasks to <br /> timelines. Vice Chairperson Grove requested that worksheets, from planning <br /> session of late 2000, be sent to all commissioners within next two weeks. <br /> Kathy will contact Denise regarding their availability and mail out. Work plan <br /> will be on next month's agenda. <br /> Item 2 - Committee Workplan Updates <br /> -Transportation <br /> Chairperson Harrison reported that Councilwoman Barbara Pierce would <br /> formally present the Commission's transportation survey request to Council <br /> at the February 18th or 25th Council meeting. It will then be placed on the <br /> Council's agenda. <br /> Manager Griffith reported that a Council member had recommended that the <br /> Senior Affairs Commissioners research what grants and creative financial <br /> solutions may be available, since Council receives many requests and funds <br /> are limited. <br /> Commissioner M. Walsh reported another organization that made a <br /> presentation to Council, on January 28, 2002, regarding funds available for <br /> shuttles in all the cities of San Mateo county. Mr. Apiur, Executive Director of <br /> City Association of Governments, has millions of dollars for transportation <br /> grants through CalTrans. The telephone number for more information is <br /> (650) 599-1406. Jim Hartnett has done research and may have further <br /> information. Palo Alto funded it's own shuttle which costs them $450,000. <br /> per year. San Mateo shuttle cost that city $20,000. per month. Manager <br /> Griffith reported that she is working on a grant for a 5310B van but wasn't <br /> sure the strict criteria could be met in order to qualify for funds. Creative <br /> funding and collaboration approaches may be necessary to improve <br /> transportation services. Further participation in the transportation survey is <br /> encouraged. Commissioner M. Walsh will contact Dave Nelson of the Traffic <br /> Congestion Alliance regarding grant information. <br /> -Housing <br /> No report was given this month. <br /> -Public Awareness & Access to Services <br /> No report was given this month. <br />
