She volunteered to draft a letter for <br /> the Commission to send to the Council and City Manager to request their <br /> assistance and the Commissioners agreed with this suggestion. <br /> M/S M.Walsh/Carpe: To send a letter to the City Council and City <br /> Manager requesting their assistance with the parking issue at Fair <br /> Oaks Senior Center. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> -Housing <br /> Commissioner Borgens spoke about a list of available properties for housing <br /> developments. She noted that rents are stabilized and there are many <br /> housing units available for rent. Commissioner Borgens said it has been <br /> recommended to HUD that they tighten their housing guidelines. She stated <br /> the Franklin Street project is moving along. <br /> -Public Awareness &Access to Services <br /> Commissioner Grove announced that City Council will vote on the $35,000 <br /> allocation at their March 25 meeting and reported there are more than 30 <br /> groups applying for these funds. Commissioner Borgens agreed to attend <br /> this Council meeting for the Commission. <br /> -Strategic Planning Committee Update <br /> Commissioner Borgens reported the committee has not met recently. <br /> ITEM 3 — ANNUAL WORKPLAN REVIEW & DISCUSSION <br /> Commissioner Grove stated the Commissioners each received copies of the <br /> minutes of the December 14, 2000 Commission meeting where the <br /> Commission developed an action plan for 2001. Commissioner Grove asked <br /> the Commissioners if there were items from this action plan that still needed <br /> work. The Commissioners discussed adult day care and the research the <br /> Commission had done on Catholic Charities and Rosener House facilities a <br /> few year ago. Manager Griffith announced she is working with Rosener <br /> House staff to provide services at the Veterans Senior Center and she will <br /> gather more information and report at the May meeting. <br /> The Commissioners felt that health care is still an issue and it should remain <br /> on the action plan. Commissioner Grove suggested planning a health care <br /> symposium where local legislators would be invited to hear seniors could <br /> speak on actual health care "horror stories". Speakers would be limited to <br /> five minutes and legislators would not be expected to speak at this event. <br />
