Senior Affairs Commission Page 4 <br /> Minutes of Thursday,March 14,2002 <br /> M/S Grove/Harrison: To sponsor a symposium to give Redwood City <br /> seniors an opportunity to speak with lawmakers concerning health <br /> care issues which have not been addressed. <br /> Motion passed unanimously. <br /> Commissioner Grove agreed to draft a letter to legislators after the date of <br /> the symposium is scheduled. She also asked Susan Houston of the Fair Oaks <br /> Senior Center if there was anything else that needed to be addressed. Ms. <br /> Houston recommended that the transportation survey and any type of <br /> communication also be done in Spanish. <br /> ITEM 4 - PROGRAM UPDATES <br /> -Fair Oaks Senior Center <br /> Susan Houston reported that Zena Vigileos is now on the Paratransit <br /> Coordinating Council. Ms. Houston reviewed upcoming activities and events <br /> at the Fair Oaks Senior Center. She also noted that former Senior Affairs <br /> Commissioner Gladys Sharp passed away recently and the Commission <br /> agreed to send a condolence card to her family. <br /> -Veterans Memorial Senior Center <br /> Manager Griffith distributed the "Newsflash" newsletter and gave an update <br /> of activities and events at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center. She invited <br /> the Commissioners to the kick-off of the Human Race on April 30. <br /> Manager Griffith announced the Senior Center will be closed for the week of <br /> March 25 because it will be tented for termites. She mentioned the willow <br /> tree behind the Center will be removed on this month because it is diseased. <br /> She also noted the Head Chef position has been offered to one of the <br /> applicants. <br /> Commissioner Borgens stated she saw donated food items being sold in the <br /> lobby of the Senior Center and asked if the Commission could do anything to <br /> stop this. Commissioner M. Walsh explained that all senior groups have been <br /> advised that this is not acceptable and that it could jeopardize the Center's <br /> 501C3 status. The Commissioners discussed the matter and Commissioner <br /> Borgens volunteered to make presentations to various senior groups to <br /> explained why this practice is no longer allowed. Manager Griffith will supply <br /> the meeting dates of the senior groups to Commissioner Borgens. <br /> M/S Borgens/Moran: To have a representative from the Senior <br /> Affairs Commission attend various senior group meetings and <br /> provide an update on the food regulations. <br /> Motion passed. <br />
