Senior Affairs Commission Page 3 <br /> Minutes of Thursday,April 11,2002 <br /> -Housing <br /> Commissioner Borgens asked what responses to the Franklin Street <br /> apartment applications were at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center. <br /> Manager Griffith reported that people did not feel that they had a very good <br /> chance of being selected since only 31 apartments were available. It was <br /> reported that as of April 10, 2002, only 80 applications had been received. <br /> Commissioner Borgens reported that she and Commissioner M. Walsh have <br /> been studying the Marina Shores development. Commissioner M. Walsh met <br /> with Tom Passinisi and requested a higher percentage of units be set aside <br /> for fixed income seniors within the 30% of units set aside in general fixed <br /> income ordinance. A letter to council, drafted by Commissioner M. Walsh, <br /> was presented to the Commission and percentages discussed. <br /> M/S 3. Borgens/B. Moran: To send the drafted letter to City Council <br /> with the agreed upon percentages. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> -Public Awareness &Access to Services <br /> Commissioner L. Walsh presented a draft letter to Mr. Joe Ahern of ABC <br /> Channel 7, inviting him to attend a Redwood City town meeting about <br /> healthcare. <br /> M/S M. Walsh/B. Moran: To send the drafted letter of invitation to <br /> Mr. Ahern. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> Discussion ensued regarding further outreach to senior population in <br /> Redwood City, broadening contacts, increasing participation at Senior Centers <br /> and possible collaboration efforts. Manager Griffith volunteered VMSC staff <br /> to contact local religious organizations, on behalf of the Senior Affairs <br /> Commission, and invite their participation in senior events and activities. <br /> M/S M. Walsh/3. Harrison: To have the Veterans Memorial Senior <br /> Center contact local religious organizations and invite participation <br /> of their senior groups on behalf of the Senior Affairs Commission. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> Commissioner Borgens attended the March 25, 2002 City Council meeting <br /> and reported that $35,000.00 came up for discussion. She reported that to <br /> her recollection, $15,000.00 was designated to Housing and Human Concerns <br /> Committee, $16,000.00 to Cultural Commission; remainder of funds was <br /> allocated to books for school children. When the Senior Affairs Commission's <br /> senior survey was discussed, the idea was supported but it was proposed <br /> that it be incorporated in the City survey being issued by the City Manager's <br /> office in September or October of this year. Commissioner Borgens was <br /> assured, in that meeting, that the Senior Affairs Commission survey would be <br /> included in the one from Ed Everett's office. Chairperson Harrison reported <br />
