A meeting will be scheduled with Mr. Everett to further <br /> discuss and arrange for the inclusion of Senior Affairs Commission survey <br /> with the Redwood City survey. <br /> -Strategic Planning Committee Update <br /> Commissioner Borgens reported she had not been contacted with any new <br /> information. <br /> ITEM 3 - PROGRAM UPDATES <br /> -Fair Oaks Senior Center <br /> Susan Houston reported that during the month of March 2002, 1,098 meals <br /> were served, 518 Rediwheels rides were provided, 14 new lunch patrons <br /> attended. Computer classes and case management are popular activities. <br /> $7,500 was received from Silicon Valley Urgency Fund, which will go toward <br /> the case management program. <br /> Commissioner Grove inquired about parking situation at Fair Oaks. <br /> Superintendent Beth had just received SAC letter and sought suggestions. <br /> Discussion followed. It was recommended that street and lot parking be <br /> reassessed to maximize usage capabilities. <br /> -Veterans Memorial Senior Center <br /> Manager Griffith reported that there is an excellent new chef at the center. <br /> The tenting of the site was completed. The closets have been cleaned out, <br /> painted, and furnished with new shelves and flooring. The kick-off breakfast <br /> for the Human Race, sponsored by the Advisory Council, was a success with <br /> 90 people in attendance. Proceeds will benefit renovations to the Little <br /> Theater. <br /> Manager Griffith requested that she be put on next month's agenda to report <br /> on the National Conference on Aging and the American Society on Aging and <br /> to present some of the information from the convention. She spoke of a <br /> driving wellness seminar that she attended and mentioned the speaker <br /> discussed the lack of communication from the aging community regarding <br /> transportation needs. She reported that at a recent national transportation <br /> task force program that deals with funding programs such as the CalTrans <br /> buses and MTC funds wanted to hear about older adult transportation needs <br /> that the service providers have identified. However, not one agency that <br /> serves elders were in attendance, so the transportation needs of the elderly <br /> were not made part of the group's strategic plan for next six years. Manager <br /> Griffith requested the commission's approval to draft a letter to legislators <br /> informing them that the transportation needs of seniors are not being <br /> addressed. <br />
