Senior Affairs Commission Page 3
Minutes of Thursday,May 9,2002
ITEM 3 - COMMITTEE WORKPLAN UPDATES
-Transportation
Commissioner Carpe announced that as of August 25, 2002, Rediwheels
would increase its fares.
Superintendent Beth presented the commission with a report by Human
Services Manager Teri Chin on the parking situation at Fair Oaks Community
Center and the various options being explored for improvement. Of the 188
parking spaces in the shared lot, the average number of staff per day is 169.
There are over 1,000 participants per day and evening seeking use of the lot.
Parking is not available at Costco. The cost to use the Canada parking lot is
prohibitive at $3,500.00 per month. If the price is negotiable, the Parks,
Recreation and Community Services Department may be able to share some
expenses with the County that has 15 fleet vehicles parked at the FOCC site.
Permit parking, designated parking, increased street parking, employee
incentives for off-site parking, scheduling around "peak" parking times and
enforcement of parking regulations are be explored as possible solutions to
the problem.
-Housing
There is no report this month.
-Public Awareness & Access to Services
Commissioner M. Walsh announced that the Grand Jury's recent finding on
Sequoia Hospital stated that a sale to Catholic Healthcare West took place.
Technicalities are being disputed as to whether there was an actual sale or
not. Chairperson Harrison, Commissioner L. Walsh and M. Walsh will contact
Mr. Gibson for an appointment to discuss the matter.
Commissioner Grove asked when the questionnaire would be sent out from
City Manager Ed Everett's office. September was the date announced at the
City Council meeting. Manager Griffith will check with Director Centeno
whether some questions may be cut or if it will be sent as originally
established.
-Strategic Planning Committee Update
Manager Griffith invited the Commissioners to attend the Veterans Memorial
Senior Center Advisory Council meeting on June 5, 2002 and a focus group
pertaining to the Park, Recreation and Community Services Department's
strategic plan.
